tensioning Pulley?

No. 100k is the interval. These newer belts last nearly forever, the issue is the lube on the tensioning pulley.

Is there a way to lube the tensioning Pulley?

Or is it the newest non-serviceable part with designed in obsolescence to make the whole job necessary at 100k.

For timing belt Tensioner, Idler Pulley, and water pump, I'm getting quotes from multiple shops in the 1200-1400 range, including the dealer. Several have given me a quote then reneged after realizing they needed a cam locking tool.

I'm frustrated at an extra 400-500 for the water pump even though they are in there already. Is it really that much more trouble?

I'd almost like to try and do this job myself, as I have the tools, but a place to do it is not in the works. I wish you could rent a shop space.

I live in Alaska and last winter we got Dumped on with a TON OF SNOW, I tried driving thru it with no Aval got stuck and it being an Auto I had to switch from Drive to Reverse a Few times before getting unstuck, after the Winter Season passed I noticed I was getting a Whining Sound when Accelerating and when deaccelerating no Whining Sound . I've looked up some causes on-line It says the serpentine belt could be the cause but when I took it too a local mechanic they said it wasn't that it's possible it could be The the Timing Belt. Although I've had My Sonic since 2014 with just over 53K Miles I've found quotes ranging from $430-$520 & others $800-$950. So My question is, Which is responsible for the Whining Sound?

Wow, just picked up the parts to do timing belt/water pump $560CAD, serpentine belt/tensioner $350CAD, thermostat/housing $350CAD, valve cover gaskets $120CAD. Oil/filter $95CAD, and coolant $35CAD. Timing belt set was a gates kit (purchased on recommendation from the dealership, as that’s what they install). Everything else was AC Delco or GM Genuine, fel pro for the valve cover gaskets, Motul full syn oil, and GM coolant. Seeing the USD Prices I feel like I’ve been raped on the right side corner of the bed by a big guy named Butch. Even shopped about and grabbed from the cheapest sources and wheeled a couple deals as well. Lol

luckily I’m good with a wrench, so I’d be doing all the work myself
