I own the hatch, but to be fair, I went shopping for a hatchback and had no interest in sedans. I needed a small vehicle that could carry boxes full of swords, and I took two typical boxes with me while shopping. If the boxes didn't fit, then I didn't bother test driving the car.
I drove a rental Sonic for a week while on my honeymoon in the keys. It has a lot MORE room. The hatchback is essentially a sedan with the trunk hacked off. The trunk on the sedan is enormous.
The hatchback is a cargo vehicle OR a passenger vehicle. With the rear seats up, there's a tiny little space back there. The 60/40 seats mean it works, sort of, with two passengers, but put that fourth person in and you're really restricted as to how much you can carry. The sedan, though, just laughs at that challenge. I think you could put a small bed in the trunk and sleep there.
I still prefer the hatchback, I like the look better, and for my particular purposes it functions better. But the sedan is certainly a solid choice.
