so you bought a sonic. please answer the following questions for those of us in the market or for those of you who just bought one or had one awhile and want to know what everyone else got one for.

1. which one did you get, sedan, hatch and model
2. which engine and trans
3. color
4. price if you want to tell us. ( optional )
5. your age ( optional )

I am asking cuz I am lookin to buy one and I am in my upper 40's knockin on 50 and tryin to decide if this is the car I will want into my mid 50's or not.

currently lookin at a 2013 RS in the black granite color and auto

I had an Audi A4 before this, loved the car to death. If it didn't need 4-5k worth of work, and didn't have 130k miles on it, I'd still be driving it. After looking back at my purchase I couldn't be happier. I was looking at Fiesta's, Sparks, and other cars in this class/price range. Sonic was the true winner. While I would have loved either the 1.4L Turbo, or a Ford Fusion hatchback, I'm happy with this Sonic. For the price, rate of my loan, and availability (in stock on the lot) the choice was clear. I was also interested in a Cruze, but honestly the Cruze and Focus were just too much out of my price range, and the Sonic is way sexier than a Fiesta, much more aggressive and sporty, and the 1.8 is fun.

If the 1.4 was on the lot and a bit more in my budget I would have gotten one, but I really don't care too much. It's not meant to be a super fast car anyways. In the future I will buy myself an STI or Camaro if I really want something fast, plus once my credits improved. The look of the car is awesome, tons of good mods that can really make it look sick. The RS is an awesome choice, but if I were you I'd get a VW GTI or something for a bit more money. I'm a younger guy who has too many student loans I'm paying on and a few bad things on my credit from when I was 18 and early 20's that kind of screwed things up, so I had to take what I could get.

Either way, the age range from these cars is anywhere from 16-100, drive what you want to drive. After I saw a 80+ year old lady driving a 2013 Nissan GT-R anything is possible. :)

1. LT Hatch.... LT because it had the features I wanted/needed and almost none that I didn't want (hint, hint, ONstar). Hatch because the sporty look.

2. 1.4t manual..
3. Orange....
4. I think low $17k out the door.
5. 24

I'm quite satisfied with the purchase and got what I expected and wanted. A fun to drive, reliable commuter that handles my limited cargo with aplomb and gets stellar gas mileage (i haven't had a tank below 40 mpg in 10+ fill ups :banana:).

Test drive one, see what ya think, sleep on it, then buy the sonic. Ok maybe the last one is premature but that's what will probably happen ;).

My 50 year old dad bought it for me and kept his 2007 Cobalt because he really likes it. My parents drove it on a trip to Florida and they really liked it. My dad asked if I wanted to trade cars when he got home. My almost 80 year old grandpa is about to get one because he likes it so much.
A lot of my friends think it's awesome and fast. I love it.

All the Sonics in the area are LT (vast majority) or RS. No LS or LTZ to be found. RS was just too much of a cost premium over the LT in my opinion.

The only thing I really don't like is the way the auto shifts in the lowest gears: it's too jerky. However, that may be due to the fact that this is my first turbo (and first 6-speed auto rather than 5-speed) and I'm not used to the way the turbo kicks in in conjunction with the lower gears, hence I may be too aggressive on the accelerator at the low end, rather than backing off.

I've only had it 2.5 weeks, so I'm still getting a feel for it.

I liked the sedan because I go thru lots of stoplights and rear end wrecks are commonplace. The hatch just dont have as much steel behind me. Now thats just a ridiculous excuse I know, but it makes me sleep better, so there ya go.

This has been a great "midlife crisis" car for me, it hits all my desire to dump money time and effort into a sporty little red thing, and yet it satisfies my lingering hippy desire to drive something that isn't burning all the gasoline on the planet and dumping massive amounts of pollutants, and it hits my desire to be frugal, which is different from cheap, I want to spend a little on something great, not spend a little regardless of how crappy the thing I got is. It even hits my "patriot" button by being made in the US, from mostly made in the US parts, for a nominally US company. I know, it's still global, but it's at least reasonably homegrown.

If I had it to do over again, I would still buy the 1.4T LT model, but I would get the automatic. With the "manual mode" feature, I believe I'd get everything I want from a manual while being able to enjoy the laziness of automatic most of the time..

I would not buy the LTZ or the RS, both of which strike me as wasting money on looks while degrading performance. Your mileage may vary on that, though, certainly there are people out there buying both.

I would not buy the LS, simply because I really prefer the 1.4T to the 1.8. If not for the fact that the 1.4T is not available on the LS, though, I'd almost certainly be going that route.

I'm not in my 50s quite yet, so I can't really tell you how that will feel in the Sonic, but I don't really see why another couple years would change anything. Loving the Sonic so far!

I originally wanted an LT/LTZ in blue or black with a manual transmission. The only manual they had on the lot was white with black rims. I figured I'd rather give up the manual transmission than the color as I really did not like the white. I couldn't find a granite black hatch with a manual within a 200 mile radius.

so this has been fun. I see people from all over the USA of all ages buying all the different models of sonics. I also found it interesting to see the price differences for similar cars in different parts of the country. so I will add my info as I just bought one myself

so far so good with the car. getting 31 avg MPG to and from work on the hiway in stop and go traffic. thus the auto trans by choice.
quick trip over the pass, well two passes this weekend for a drive got me 36 mpg. not bad for running the cascade pass in our state... glad I bought the car and supported American workers as I have found it to be of high quality for a car of its class as compared to the metric cars. Not too many RS's in my area either so its fun to see the looks from other sonic owners.
