Just this morning driving to work, I got a whiff of coolant. When I got to the office, I popped the hood. Coolant leak. It looks like the it's actually coming from the coolant reservoir/surge tank. I just ordered the GM OEM part on Ebay.

It never ends with this vehicle......

Sure, GM can give me what I paid for the car and I'll go by another vehicle. I'll even give another GM brand a try. Why not? My family has owned GM exclusively since 1977 and my late father was a salesman for Cadillac.

Instead, GM offered me $2,000 off the price of a new car, which didn't solve my $16,000+ paperweight problem. Now that they own the warranty on it until 2021, maybe that would get their attention.....

Because I got the reservoir and cap for $30 delivered to my door, which was cheaper than Amazon and the dealer. Ordered on a Friday, will be here today. I suppose I could put it on the hook again and send it back to the dealership. I did that with the thermostat the last time. After all, towing is covered by my insurance company.......

I looked it up on the GM Parts System I have access to and then ordered it from there. Why NOT order it on Ebay?

I don't get down to the city that often.. last two times i was there was for work. Surveying a hospital in the Bronx and other was driving a 16' Isuzu box truck to close down/relocate are NYC office in Manhattan....

:blankface: driving that thing down there was fun (damned-able commercial truck restrictions) .. GW to 32nd & 5th.

I work in Queens right outside the Midtown Tunnel, so it gets backed up around here quick. Fortunately, I get to work (most days) early and leave early/late to avoid traffic, but it's still a grind....

Your choice to the avoid the forum, no one else's......

So, what you are saying is for a $30 coolant reservoir and cap, I should:

1) Call my insurance company and wait for a tow truck.
2) Wait for said tow truck.
3) Have it towed to the dealer.
4) Wait for them to diagnose it.
5) Lose said Sonic for two days.
6) Wait for them to acknowledge the warranty and explain, "Yea, check GM Fleet for the CAC coverage and call GM if you have to"
7) Have them fix the car as per the GM warranty.
8) Now have someone in my family take time out of their schedule to drop me off
9) Verify their work when it gets home.

Or, I could order that $30 part and install it myself in a half hour which is what I did.

FYI - I now have 35 months of ownership and have had ZERO problems. Just oil and filter changes.

Heck, I still have my original floor mats and they are in perfect condition.

So, you're advocating that I drive the car and risk possible overheating and damage to the engine and then have GM tell me, "well you overheated it, not our problem, should have towed it". ?

Further, who is paying for the tow? You do realize that GM will not pay for that tow with a CAC warranty. Sure you do, I just told you. Learn what a CAC warranty is through GM Fleet before you spew out what you don't know anything about. I doubt the GM tech and the whole process would be done in the 1/2 hour it took me to change the parts.

Dude, tone it down and be reasonable. You like your Sonic, I get that. The forum does. The world does too. But, just because someone doesn't think it's the holy grail of automotive doesn't make them wrong.
