Sonic LTZ - Locked out with key in ignition, car running

Hello,

Just the other day, got call from SO and it seems that she left the car - 2015 Sonic LTZ - running, closed the door, picked up something and came back but door wouldn't open.

Car got locked.

Thankfully, I was nearby with spare key and was able to manually open the car, clicking on remote didn't open the door.

what could cause this?

I have the same problem constantly. I have to leave the window down if I get out of the car with the key in the ignition. Doesn't matter if it is running or not.

There is a setting in your radio/ mylink it's under vehicle settings I believe you can change that by scrolling through the menu finding the door lock and disable it or having it lock all doors except the drivers it did it to me once at home .
Same place you can change the remote to blink lights on when set to lock to honk the horn , have your wipers come on when you back up etc ....

I have been having door locking by itself problems lately.
It could be a fob/ receiver problem because my red security light turns on when it locks itself. (does not happen with interior door lock button)

This thread - post #19 suggests removing the key battery to see if the problem stops.

I'm not sure that that would be a key fob problem the only thing that I could respond to in this thread is that has happened to me in my driveway when I was working on my car several times at first I would leave the driver's window down so basically what happens is whether the ignition is on or not you shut your driver's door and then within a minute it will automatically lock all the doors.

I remember going into my link vehicle settings go to the area where it says settings and you can change the door anti lock out it's probably set to off you need to set it to On . Now the doors will not automatically lock you out anymore that's Good Although once you exit the car you must use key fob to lock it I have forgot to lock my car so many times with the key in the ignition overnight due to the key chime failure .

That is a factory recall for those who bought used sonics and did not know with the door open and key off there's supposed to be a warning chime that's why we leave the key in by mistake .
