Good evening,
New Sonic owner as of this morning. Most vehicle features have been either self explanatory or reading the owner's manual has explained it sufficiently.
There's one issue that has me scratching my head though...
I've read through the main MyLink thread here as well as doing a search on this, but I cannot find anything definitive: is the version of Mylink installed in the 2013 Sonic a dumbed down or stripped version of MyLink compared to other vehicles?
There are various Youtube videos and documentation indicating a whole range of MyLink voice commands, including changing audio source, stations, etc.
However, the Sonic owner's manual seems to imply that the only voice commands through MyLink are through your paired phone (Siri or Google Voice) and strictly for making calls. Is that accurate?
I have my Samsung Galaxy Note II paired with MyLink. I can stream audio fine, and my Phone Book shows up on the display. However, when I press the voice command button on the steering wheel, (1) I get no audible prompts at all, but there should be as indicated by the person I spoke with on the phone today at Chevrolet, and (2) the MyLink screen just changes to the telephone dialpad screen.
That's it. No voice prompt, chime, or anything.
Now, if I hold down the button on the steering wheel, the MyLink screen will show me a Voice Command message (still nothing audible) and activates the voice recognition app on my phone. If I speak something it is simply passed through to the cellphone. Nothing is ever processed/interpreted by MyLink itself.
Also, voice recognition does not seem to work at all if my phone is on its lock screen, which it invariably is on. I don't want to have to disable the lock screen permanently or have to fumble for my phone in order to make a voice call... that defeats the whole purpose of the technology IMO.
Am I misunderstanding the way this whole system works or is something misconfigured or not working properly? As it currently stands, I see ZERO advantage to the so-called "voice integration" in the Sonic MyLink system.
Thanks in advance.
