Looks like a potential airbag issue for a few 2012 sonics.....

I recall reading on this site where someone(s) was/were in an accident or hit a deer and their airbag did not deploy.....wonder if it is the same thing.

Recall starts mid February 2013.

well if it didn't deploy i think it's a good thing because i hate the idea of a bag deploying into my face at 200mph is a good idea anyways......seat belts and good driving usually is all needed anyways

Having wrecked two Cavalier coupes in similar manners and speeds, the only difference between functional and non function airbags I noticed was the amount over value for damages. The air bags just added another $3500 to go above and beyond on the total out cost.

Yes, because getting a face full of fabric is worse than getting a face full of plastic, glass and/or metal.

Seat belt kept me from getting a full face of anything in either crash.

An air bag designed to stop an unrestrained 250# person is of no use to someone properly buckled into the seat with everything adjusted properly. Only reason the windshield broke in the first one was from the passenger airbag, second accident did not result in a broken windshield. Hell, the crack that was already there didnt even get any bigger.

A couple of points here. Air bags aren't designed for unrestrained people no matter their weight. They are designed to work in conjunction with seatbelts and other safety features of the modern car. I would hate to see the bill if all my 10 bags deployed, but I'm willing to bet if the accident was severe enough (to cause that event) I would be glad they did.

I was in the deer crash and the airbags didn't deploy because the accident didn't warrant it. The car took the force we were totally fine.

Seeing as how that is what I was told while going through GM training (its been a while), I am inclined to go with it.

If all 10 bags go off I would have to think that the car will be totaled out. The bags alone wont do it (just yet but give it 5 years or so and they might) but the damage repair along with bag and associated equipment replacement probably will.

The 10 airbags is one of the several things about this car I could really do without,

if you've never been hit the face or chest by an air bag, I hope you never are. Don't get me wrong the air bag is better than the wheel but since I's as tall as I am and sit so far back from the wheel I doubt I would have hit it. When I wrecked my Silverado last year, the airbag hit me square in the chest. If I was any closer I would have got the wind knocked out of me. Sucked a$$ imo. Where your seat belts kids. that's all I'm gonna say

Quick Stat

Since the implement of required front Air bags or as we in the business called them Supplemental restraint Systems. Deaths from front end crashes was reduced by almost 75% How much value do we put on a life.

Airbags are so safe they keep recalling them. They have had ongoing problems since inception
Effectiveness is highly debatable due to so many contributable factors such as the drivers physical being. Proximity to potentially injuring components of car and so on.
Many cars are totaled for full airbag deployment when the auto can be recovered.
Given a choice I wouldn’t pay for them but, there isn’t.

Wondering if this is why my passenger air bag light will intermittently show air bag off light when gf is in seat. Sometimes it looks fine, sometimes it says air bag off.
No money to take it in if not covered.
