Sonic RS vs Fiesta ST

I am registered for the SCCA Solo Nationals event at Lincoln this September. There are nine Fiesta STs registered in H-Street and one Sonic RS. Does anybody think the Sonic can get a least one of them?

I would say not a chance. The Fiesta is 150lbs or so lighter with 60 more horsepower. I don't think any amount of driving skill can make up for that deficit, unless one of the ST drivers really screws up.

I even smoked a supercharged focus st at the track last fri night.. you gotta drive it like you hate it, lol. Unless there are some really long straight sections you will smoke them. The sonic will pull off the turns better if you drive it right, the efi live can give you stump puller torque at the bottom

Your ride sounds glorious, Whitesmoke. Pity that efi live isn't exactly allowed in the Street class. It might be killer in Street Touring or Street Modified. Does this "adjustment" modifiy the boost table (is there such a thing?) or does it simply request torque? I ask because Street Touring allows extra boost if it is "incidental" to the tune.

Either way, I'm going to battle the FiSTs this year. There is always next year. (I sound like a Cub fan.)

I had never seen one. But this guy did all the mods himself, licence plate was BLWN-ST. he was doing tunes, just got the car together. But why do u say it would be slower, i wish i could put a supercharger on this sonic, then we would have something, especially for drag racing like i do, a blower would kick the **** out of this hair dryer thats on here

I assume he actually meant a SVT focus. There are available supercharger kits for those. I may be wrong, but I strongly doubt anyone is swapping the turbo on the ST over to a supercharger. If for no other reason than the fact that parasitic drag would kill any possible additional power you would get from a big supercharger. Turbos are inheriently more efficient than Superchargers, so unless that guy knows some type of physics bending magic, I assume the OP is probably incorrect regarding the model.

EFILive does boost the PSI. Fiesta ST's can get tuned as well. Mountune offers a tune that if installed by a Mountune certified or Ford certified dealer won't effect the Ford warranty. Then you are behind again, but the gap is a bit smaller. I almost bought a Molten Orange ST, but I just didn't like the styling of the car. I fell in love with the Dragon Green RS the moment I saw it. Cancelled the ST and bought the RS.

Smoke is right, an EFILive tuned Sonic will do well against a stock ST.

I say that because on a 4 cylinder, there's a lot of parasitic loss with a supercharger. Bolted and tuned 1.4 sonics are putting down almost as much torque as my supercharged cobalt ss did with full stage 3 and full bolt ons with a 2.7" pulley. My torque numbers would've been much higher on the cobalt with a tiny k04 turbo, and st's make mid-high 300's as far as torque goes when bolted and tuned. Also, with these turbos being as small as they are and spooling as fast as they do, it would be a bad idea to swap to supercharger.

These turbos basically already have instant boost, and full boost by 2-3k rpm is great. With a supercharger you don't get full boost until higher in the power band.
