Sound Deadening Areas and Amount

Let me begin by saying that I am very experienced in repair and modification of cars, but have little knowledge of the finer points sound systems and enclosures, so bear with me.

I was taking some measurements of my 2012 Sonic sedan, and same up with an estimated interior surface area of about 84 sq ft. This includes all four doors, firewall, floor, roof, decklid and trunk floor. I did not account for the trunk walls.

I have done some searching here and elsewhere, but wanted some firsthand accounts of what areas people think are most critical, and how important it is to cover every sq ft or not?

I too would like this issue discussed for both the sedan and the hatch. Even though i think Chevy did a great by keep these cars pretty quite, there's nothing like taking things to the next level.
I have a hatch and one area i know for sure that needs help is the spare wheel well. there is bare metal all over the place back there!!!

Might help you in your visualization of where to put it.. they put some NVH stuff already in several spot...but there's always room to add... I'd sure do the rear shock towers and spare tire well as well...tire well as well...ha

So far I have done the doors and decklid in my sedan, full coverage on the inner and outer. MAJOR difference, and really shows the importance of doing the floor as well. I hope to do the floors over my Christmas break.

I'll upload the shot or two I have when I'm on my home pc. Hulty already has great shots for it.

Well, the concept is the same, you'll find the same antivibration/resonance stuff they put on the floorboards & such.

Older thread but wanted to give my experience to someone who is reading this like me. If your doing this for audio considerations and not for interior quietness that will change what you will need vs want to do. If you want just to help audio doors, quarter panels, and lower trunk are the most important. For overall interior quality you will want to cover heavy in the front floor board and foot-well area as well as the trunk. If you can remove the headliner and cover that area it will drop the overall interior noise significantly. This area typically only sound control is what is attached to that headliner. Which is next to nothing in most cars. However any removal of outside noise in the cabin will improve the quality of even a stock audio.

Sorry for resurrecting the dead.

But i just did the back left door (inside of door card, and inner and outer door skins) of my 2012 hatchback. I used about 4.5x sheets of Resonix CLD, 2x sheets of Amazon basics CLD, 1x sheet of Megazorb from SecondSkin, and I think 4 or 5 Resonix Guardian. Oh and a foot or two of cloth tape.

Earlier today I started on the front right door, so far I have a third of a sheet of 1" Fibermat, about a sheet of Megazorb, and 2 sheets of Amazon Basics deadener. (All just on the door card alone, and I'll go in and finish up the outer and inner door skin tonight after work.

Fingers crossed I can get the driver's door done tomorrow night.
