I don't know the emissions data of burnt diesel, but I've learned a little about oil refining during my time working at the refinery.
Diesel comes out of the cut quite a bit lower on the crude oil cracker, before its refined. Meaning that less heat and pollution is required to produce it than finer fuels like gasoline and jet fuel.

Including sulfur.
The higher refined petro products must have sulfur cracked from them. So while the end product doesn't have high sulfur content to burn, large amounts of unusable, potentially toxic sulfur byproduct is produced.
So really it's hard to weigh carbon for carbon, between pollution of diesel and gasoline. Diesel is cleaner to make but burns dirtier. Gas is dirtier to make but burns cleaner.
