I've been doing a lot of reading and everyone is talking about MPG. I'd like to know how many miles are y'all getting per tank. For example: 400 miles and filled it with 12 gallons. I haven't bought the car yet, but I'm going to this coming Spring. I'm just doing a little research. Also, state your engine and transmission. I plan on getting the 1.4T 6MT. Thanks in advance

I average anywhere from 300-360 per tank. depends how hard i run it that week and what i get out of it in return. some weeks are better than others. 2012 LT 1.8L 6spd-Automatic Sedan

mind you all my figures are from strickly city driving. so im sure if i was to do a long trip and really take it out on the open road and not have a constant stop and go like i do here in the city i would get way better numbers for tank miles and MPG.

I am getting around 280 a tank, fill up about 8.1-8.9 gallons (I don't run it down to a gallon... I like to keep my fill ups to 30-35 bucks) and I'm getting around 30.5-33 mpg 100% city driving. I also shift at 3,000 on a regular basis and go WOT through a one to three gears at least once a drive. I drive a not stock 1.4t 6spd manual.... Well, for the time being. Shortly it will be as stock as it can get (BPV and shifter spacers are staying on the car).

I typically run 400mi on ~10.xx gallons in my 1.4T 6MT. anything less than 360mi is a terrible tank and anything over 440mi is pretty good, all on about 10 gallons of gas; which is about when the "low light" comes on.
I've gone as far as ~550 miles on ~10 gallons (55.xx mpg) but that was with considerable effort and a ton of patience
with the 1.4T and 6 speed manual you should expect about 380miles between fillups with warmer temps and anything other than short trips, stop and go, and warp speed interstate speeds (anything over ~75 and you're getting about the EPA "city" mileage). With any control and a decent commute you can break 400mi regularly.

Tank miles are a fairly meaningless measure, because the point at which you stop to fill up again is highly variable. I fill up at 11.1 gallons sometimes and 8.9 gallons other times. Many will say that going close to empty is bad for your fuel pump, which is cooled by the liquid surrounding it in the tank.
You could compare to a strict 10 gallon fillup, but then you might as well just go back to talking about miles per gallons, since now you're talking about miles per ten gallons, and that's just moving a decimal point.
On E85, driving like a maniac, I get 220 miles per ten gallons, driving carefully and sticking to the speed limit I get 310 miles per ten gallons. Similarly, on 87 pump gas driving like I normally do, I get 310 miles per ten gallons, while driving carefully I once got 440 miles per ten gallons of 93 pump gas. My top miles from a tank thus far was just over 500 miles... but that was going much closer to empty than the ten gallon line.

That's why I said in my first post how many miles you got on a tank and how many gallons did you fill up. I wanted to know that because I would like to see how far 10 or 11 gallons will get me in that car. I just got 250 miles on 16 gallons in my Jeep, so I'm trying to compare.

The most I've ever put in my tank at a fill up so far (I've only filled up 8 times) was my most recent fill up (and the first time the low fuel light came on) -- 9.78 gallons, 339 miles.
I do mainly highway driving and prefer to go the speed limit of 70mph, even though it hurts the fuel economy. It's already over an hour drive to work... I don't want it to take any longer, LOL.

I usually fill up somewhere between 10 and 11 gallons, and how far I get on that, well, it really depends very deeply on what fuel I'm using and what kind of driving I'm doing. E85, which also tends to push me into more spirited driving, somewhere between 250 and 300. 87, which I tend to use when I'm feeling thrifty, somewhere between 350 and 400. If I want to push for maximum range between tanks, I fill up with 93, drive like there are eggs under the accelerator and the brake, and push to see if I can get over 500.

I'll have to try this on a weekend sometime, there's no way I can safely, and without pissing off people behind me, baby it enough to get over 40mpg avg during my commute. I tried a couple tanks ago, and only managed 36mpg avg.
I started off trying for 40+mpg avg on my current tank, and was sitting at 42mpg avg when I got to work the first day... but I drive home at night (around 1am-3am). Temps that night were anywhere from 53-60 deg. F on my way home, and I watched the mpg plummet, no matter how I drove. Even tried the minimum limit of 55mph on the highway and it was still falling. Once it fell under 40mpg (which was my minimum goal), I said eff it and kicked it up to 70mph on the highway.
I have a couple stop signs/stop lights on 55mph roads that always seem to be congested on my way in to work... nearly impossible to take off from those stops while keeping the RPMs fuel-economy-low. :blankface:

Beats the heck out of my truck, which I get about the same "tank miles" on... but from a 26 gallon tank!!
Yea I usually get 220-230 per tank. It's a 20 gallon tank, and I usually fill up with 16 gallons. Every now and then I'm lucky and get 250 miles per tank.
If your transmission was causing you problems, then it could very well impact your mpg.
For that matter, pretty much any problem that results in increased friction in the drivetrain could impact mpg.
