I test drove a base model Sonic today with a manual transmission. Didn't have a lot of time so I didn't take many "notes". It was a 5 door hatch model. My first reaction was, wow these seats are comfortable. The interior felt a little narrow until I put the armrest up. The room in the hatch area was a little smaller then I expected.
The shifter and clutch were the smoothest Ive ever driven. Only complaint was 1st gear is a dog. To get moving on any sort of an incline you have to floor it and come up on the clutch. 1st and 2nd gear are also very long. Sales guy said the high gearing is for good mpg. Im sure the turbo will have more torque.
We drove over some bumpy roads at 45mph and didn't feel a thing.. very smooth car, but this is with the smaller wheels/cushy tires. It feels heavy for a small car, which I like.
They had a LTZ 5 door but it was just sold.. that was the car I wanted to see but didn't get there quick enough. I think Im going to hold out for the turbo LTZ. I wondering if the 5mpg will pay for itself over time? Need to figure that one out.
By the way this was at Healy Chevy in Goshen NY. 2 Sonics in stock.
