The Mud Flap Thread

Now that the snow has arrived I really should stop procrastinating and get around to installing my Rallyarmor Basics.

I trimmed the outer edge down so they don't stick out so much and trimmed the rears to be 3cm wider than the tires. They look a lot more sleek/subtle this way.

Hit any plans for mounting them? Thinking about this route, or DIY either way will need to have a plan for mounting.

i have danny5's old rally armor mud flaps installed on my sedan but only on the rear. today i added the front mud flaps.

Anyone try these yet?

I may grab some for that price and hope I don't have to do any drilling. If I do, I would add some silicone to the hole before I screw it.

Make sense?

IDK about the mud flaps, but the console has been tried and reviewed. It was not particularly well-received.

Do OEM mud flaps require any drilling or do they attach with plastic push pins in the existing inner liner holes?

What about aftermarket ones?

One car I saw, they had the flaps as an option, for $160.00 installed.

I looked at the dealership for the price and it was $50.00 for the front and $50.00 for the back. Without installation.

I found them for various prices in a web search and decided to get a set of 4 from overseas for < $20.00 off ebay. It will take a while to get them, but I can wait. I will review them when I get em. They come with the 4 mud flaps and 8 screws, so it says.

Buying American was highest on my car buying list, and I am glad I was able to in such a competitive segment. But I think the mark up on the mud flaps themselves was way too high.

No matter which ones I looked at, they all looked the same. I looked at my car and it seems like mine already has the screws in place that match up with the holes visible on the products images, so I am hoping they match up and no drilling is required. I think I remember on the inner side, there were plastic pieces holding it to the frame. If so, I hope they can just be popped off and pressed back in. I'll give more details when I get them and put them on.

One other thing about the ones I see that are "Made" for the Sonic, they all seem relatively small, and I don't know how well they really work. I think they look good on the car, but others have said they don't see them working all that well.

I figure for < $20.00 I'll try the cheap ones. I am not sure I want anything much bigger. By next winter I may be modifying something larger to make it work as others have done.

I have on Rally Armor UR flaps for winter. They expensive but for the thickness and flexibility you get quality flaps that can last you for a long time. They protect very well also.

Universal.. They're terribly wide but they protect so thats all I care about.

I took off the rears yesterday. I'm debating on leaving the front on... Not sure yet though.. I probably will because I'm lowered now.

I have a feeling the little ones I'm getting, that look to be the same size as the OEM ones, aren't going to cut it for winter. I want the protection too. I want to reduce the rooster tails I see painted on the sides. I hate seeing and knowing I am basically sand-blasting the sides of my car every time I drive.

Did you have to order yours, or just picked them up at an auto parts store?

It's now making me consider some hood protection for next winter too.

I ordered a set of OEM flaps from my local dealer for $ 85 plus tax for both front and rear. I cannot believe that they actually tell you to drill a 10 mm hole through the bottom of front fender for the front ones. I do not mind drilling a few holes in rear plastic bumper for the rear ones, but I will not mount the front ones, because I do not need rust in that area and drilling holes in metal invites rust. Maybe I will return the whole set because I am definitely not impressed with what I see.

Just who designs these flaps for GM? Why can't they make decent sized ones that attach to the existing drilled holes? I have mounted OEM Mazda and Nissan flaps in the past, no drilling ever. They fit like a glove, were much larger and more efficient than these ridiculous tiny GM ones. There are holes already drilled for attachment of inner wheel liners so why not use those?

I just got the ones I ordered off ebay today. <20 and came within 2 weeks. Haven't put them on and no idea yet what I need to do, or how they compare to the OEM's, but for <20 I figured what the heck.

I don't REALLY want to drill any holes, but if I do, I will find a way to seal it to try and avoid rusting over time.

As I said before, I don't see these really doing much for me, although I thought they looked good on the Sonic's I saw them on already. I may end up going with something like the cheaper Rally Armor ones by winter

After I figure out how to install these, ll I need to figure out is how to install a huge mudflap somewhere so my hatchback door can stay clean....

I have the OEM mudflaps on my Sonic hatch, they came with the car when I bought it.
My advice, don't waste time or money trying to get the cheaper OEM flaps.

The design is horrible, the flaps are too short and not wide enough. The back of my car gets absolutely filthy shortly after washing it while the rest of the car stays clean.

I'm in the process right now of researching and replacing the truly crappy OEM flaps.
