So a Certified Master Technician friend of mine let me in on how warranty work is done. Whatever is the maximum amount of time the manufacturer is willing to pay for a warranty repair is how long the dealership will keep my car. Doesn't matter what the details are, but the car needs to be logged into the system and not handed back to the customer until that time has been reached. The service advisors job is to keep you on the hook with whatever lies are needed until they make their money from the manufacturer. With that in mind, this is what they're telling me:
Your friend can not be further from the truth. The dealership doesn't have to hold your vehicle for a certain amount of time.
GM pays the technicians for a set time, say .5 hours. If the job takes the technician 1 hour, they are only paid for .5 hours. If the technician is done in .3 hours, they are paid .5 hours.
That being said, they can have your car in the shop for a week straight, and the technician will only be paid for the warranty time GM will allow. It's not some game the dealership plays. GM is very strict on how they pay out warranty work.
Maybe in Ontario.
It is globalized. Read up on it before you start bashing. Don't be so dense and understand how things work.
A dealership is a separate company from GM, they are just franchised to sell and service the vehicles. Anytime warranty work is done, it is sent through what is known as Global Connect to transmit the times to GM. Any stories, findings, the cause, the actual time, the paid time, the labour op codes. It does not change regardless of where your warranty work is being done.
The dealer is not going to keep your vehicle longer than they have to. The dealer only gets paid for the work they do, why would they hold your vehicle if they aren't making money?
As for your loaner, understand that the dealer fronts that cost out of the service departments budget. GM will reimburse them based on what they feel is right. If you have the car for a week, and it should have taken 2 days, GM will only reimburse them from 2 days.
So stop your bitching. There are so many variables involved in vehicle repairs that can cause delays. Backordered parts, unable to find the cause of the problem, incorrect parts ordered or sent. Things go wrong, accept it.
So what gets backordered on a software update, dumbass?
You should maybe read my whole response before you try and be a smartass, dumbass.
It was posted and you copied it. Did you not read it?
