Has anyone looked at the fuse box inside the car? There are IIRC 3 fuses labeled TOW something or another. At least my '12 said that. Haven't looked at the '13 since I got it last week.

My other car is a 3800 SC3 Fiero and many of those Fiero members say they have used their bone stock V6 cars to tow other Fiero's cross country multiple times. AFAIK the LTZ hatch and the 87 Fiero GT weigh the same. Assuming the Fiero is a stiffer chassis because of its space frame design, you could only assume the Sonic would be just as structurely sound because of a 25+/- year difference in design and engineering. I'm sure you could tow another 2700 lbs behind a Sonic but don't expect it to drive the same or even the same as a truck. Knowing how to drive in different situations is a must of you want to go this route.

a little late to the game here but...

We're downsizing our SUV and tent trailer, and hoping to tow a small cargo trailer like this one for tent, cooler etc. How do you find this handles? How much weight do you put in the trailer? About how much would a trailer like that cost? Thanks in advance!

How does it do pulling that trailer?

Here is what I have pulled with mine

Just to put it out there. I pulled a 5x8 enclosed from NY to CA and it weighted 250lbs at tongue. And 4800lbs total(just trailer). I took it easy with hills and it drove fine with no issues.
Manual mode never to exceed 4k rpms at any time. Usually under 3k. And I got 25mpg avg the 2500mile trip

Nice! I actually towed a 5x8 fully loaded with no room to spare, my rs was full too! I averaged about 24mpg from Chicago to Denver Co and my turbo pooped out around 2000 ft elevation in Nebraska going up and down hills. Got the p0299 and went away but then when I was all done with towing it wouldn't go away. My boost wouldn't go past 6psi. I pushed it a little, which might have been the cause, dealer covered turbo replacement. I say towing is fine and safe but don't push it!:sadbanana:

I purchased a 4X8 trailer from Lowe's last night to use with the Sonic. Primarily it will be for some preliminary move trips as we are closing on a house in 2 months and then used for material trips to Lowe's. I've got a 2015 1.4t. What should I look out for to prevent shortening the life of this car? I've got an Ultragauge in the car and one of my gauges is boost PSI. Is there a level that I should keep it below? Should I watch intake temp or cat temp?

Auto trans I hope as I do not believe the MT clutch will tolerate towing.

Engine temp is what you need to watch.

Yes, it is an A6. I can pull readings on engine temp as well as trans temp.

I can pull the cat temp too. That would probably be my best indicator to make sure that the turbo doesn't get too hot.

The clutch will tolerate towing within reason just fine.
Every manual Cruze has the same clutch as far as I know and that car is not only 400 pounds heavier but is also said to be ok for towing I think up to 1000 pounds from GM (unlike the Sonic).

The stock clutch doesn't tolerate abuse on modified cars. Towing 500-1000 pounds is a joke for it.

I just got a CURT 112583 Class 1 Trailer Hitch with Old-Style Ball Mount, Pin and Clip from Amazon. I was going to use it to tow a small trailer or something like this DASH 1985-uhaul/ or this MyPod-Basic

I was looking up 1.4 liter towing capacity and saw the

Dodge Dart had a 1,000# rating. The manual says not recommended.

2015 Jeep Renegade 1.4L Turbo is also listed as not recommended.

Automatic transmission in manual mode ?

I am not doubting , but could you please explain your reasoning ? In order to control engine RPM ?

So you basically got about the same MPG towing as we get in town ?

What speed were you usually driving ?
