Trax front passenger seat for 8' long material.

Has anyone sat in a Trax? I was just reading that magazine chevy sends to owners and I noticed it says that the trax has a passenger front seat that folds down flat to allow you to carry 8' long things. I frequently carry 8' long lumber in my car with the passenger seat folded all the way down. I wish it folded flat and it's basically the same car. Might be junk yard time.

I do the same thing. Low on funds right now but I will definitely be looking further into this... meantime I'm hoping you do the legwork to figure out what's needed for the refit.

I've even checked with the Fiance to make sure she won't mind that the passenger seat doesn't match the rest of the upholstery... her comment, will it be a heated seat?!

Ok, I would love this. But our back seats don't lay flat either. That's the one thing I was a little bummed about. Especially when some other cars I had looked at did have this.
Where did you read this? I'd like to look into it as well. I got some advertising booklet a couple weeks ago from Chevy but put it right into the recycle bin where the phone books go that get left on my porch. Maybe I'll look at it next time.

That's where I got it. That Chevy advertising booklet you speak of. You didn't miss much don't worry. I'm always just tickled by the trax because it is basically a sonic that costs 5k more, so I like to compare specs just for a laugh.

It is annoying that the back seats don't fold completely flat but they come fairly close. I guess it depends on what you are trying to fit in there. I routinely haul around 8' long boards of wood for my woodworking hobby and I always lay the front passenger seat back down as far as it will go and take the head rest off to accommodate but it's awkward. It would be nice if I could lat it flat forward. I've considered just taking the passenger seat out when I go on a lumber run but it looks like it would be more work than it's worth.

I also have rhino racks so I can always tie stuff to the roof but I prefer to keep it inside if possible.

Hold on, I am confused... Our back seats don't lay flat? Am I totally nuts? There is a slight angle caused by the cushioning but other than that I thought that was flat. Someone post a picture... I just don't get it.

To fold flat most vehicles allow the bottom seat cushion to flip up. Ours do not.

Back seat bottoms flipping up to allow the back seat tops to lay flat would negate the benefit of the front seats reclining all the way back ... Would it not ?

OP wants to carry 8 foot boards. Would removing the back seat bottoms allow the seat tops to lay flat ?

I can carry 8 foot boards, but it requires going between the front seats or over the front passenger seat. The rear seats, folded down, don't interfere at all. But if the front passenger seat would fold forward to flatten out, I think I could dramatically increase the number of long items I could get in there.

Personally I have no quibbles over the relative flatness of the rear seats.

The point of this thread is to have the front seat fold FORWARD, therefore, if the back seats folded flat, the front folded seat would allow for that much more room

The wife's first ten Equinox did this ^. I couldn't ever figure out why he passenger seat had a hard plastic cover on the back, similar to pic above, till she folded the seat down to make some sandwiches on one of our road trip vacations.

Probably could get a cheap one for under $1000.

Plus in the end more versatile.

If that's a no go how about a lightweight 4x6 mesh trailer?

Cheaper and more economical compared to what? I have a suburban that I can use for hauling stuff, or more than a couple people, but if a fold down seat meets someone's utility needs, the cost of buying, insuring, and maintaining an extra vehicle is hard to justify...

That requires a place to park another vehicle. I don't want to be the neighbor with ten cars on the street. HOA rules won't allow me to have a trailer outside of my garage and I have half my garage as a shop.... money isn't everything. Unless I'm going to buy a truck to use as a DD it just doesn't make sense for me.

The roof crossrails arent terribly expensive which unfortunately Is my personal next step for hauling fishing rods and tackle
But if someone did figure a retrofit for these seats in our cars I might follow through. I pack alot of crap in my hatch to save driving the truck which eats gas
