trunk lid beating up my bumper!

So i had to re do my first plasti-derp attempts due to my lack of experience with it
but im doing the chrome trunk trim as well as the bowtie and i noticed some small scratches from the trunk rubbing on my bumper...

any other sedan owners have this issue? and if so do you think i could bring it to the dealer and get it either replaced or repainted?
it's on both sides of my trunk along the bumper, and it also is making contact with my lights. it's almost like it's just vibrating against the bumper and lights

The sedan trunk lid is adjusted at the dealership as part of the pre-delivery service. I am wondering if yours was adjusted. When the Sonic first came out several sedan owner members posted the same concern but after some time these posts stopped as the dealers got the message.

The adjustment is one of several SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS that are listed at the top on the right of the PDI Checklist.

thank you for that, I called the dealership they said to bring it down, so i need to do that monday and judging by his response he's heard it before.

You can adjust it yourself...no need to waste a trip there. Just a few twists of the rubber bumpers will take care of it.

I'm pretty sure there is a write up on how to fix this. My trunk does it too but I haven't tried fixing it yet. I'll go hunt for it for you.

but i don't want to leave the scuffs visible, so i brought it down and they said it will be covered. They're going to adjust it and repaint my bumper, fo' free

Mine does it a little bit. I tried adjusting it to no real avail because I don't want the trunk sticking up higher than the quarter panels, so I didn't go up much. Eh, I figured it's just plastic. Let the paint get scuffed there, it won't rust.

I tried putting some weather stripping at the corners of the trunk.

I cleaned my car today and found this same problem. BS! I'm taking it to the dealer as soon as a get off at 0700 this morning. This should be something that is adjusted at the factory, not the dealer. My 11' aveo didn't do this to the bumper.

I took it to the dealer body shop this morning. They compounded it and the scuff marks are still there. They said that unless I want it repainted, that's the best they could do. The customer service guys did this, not the guys who do the painting. I'm pretty sure that I can get these out with an electric orbital buffer (I've had great results before), as they are light scuff marks. So we'll see if these guys knew what they were talking about. I don't want to lose my factory paint, so hell I might even have them use touch up paint and clear if all else fails. I'm super anal about my paint and this will drive me crazy, so it has to be fixed. You can buy them from multiple stores. This only covers the area right in front of the lid, but the spark has this awesome custom cover that wraps the entire lower lid area in plastic molding, and it looks great! Here is a link for the spark's much better version:

UPDATE: The Korean imports customer service said that they will have a picture uploaded for the sonic bumper mold when one becomes available, and that the cover is a mold just like what the spark has.

Washed my sonic today and found the trunk doing this. Looks like a fair amount of damage to the paint already. Guess its time to take it in and see what they can do to clean it up a bit.

This comes up every few months. The Pre-Delivery Inspection (for which the dealers are paid to complete) includes an adjustment in the trunk to keep that from happening. If the adjustment is not done, you get the result you describe.

Exterior - The sedan trunk bumpers should be adjusted about 2 & 1/2 turns so it does not hit and chip the fender paint.

I have posted this direct quote before and will likely post it again because it is quite apparent we Americans have lost the ability to follow written directions.

had my trunk and bumper repainted and touched up 6 times already with no success dealer asks me this past time "nothing I can really do about it bring it in when the decklid rusts" they even put this clear tape on the bumpers to try to protect it but decklid rubbed through the tape. If you got paint rubbing off on the bumper you better check the edge of the decklid guarantee the paints off there to bare metal and that will rust. and adjustments have been made multiple times.
