I've watched a several videos of Sonics with BNR, ZZP and Trifecta tunes. One thing they seem to have in common is the ~4500 RPM rev limiter. IMO, this particular limitation seem dumb and when I listen to others revving their modified cars and can't get any higher than 4500 RPM, it kind sounds bad.

Do any of the available tuners have an option for raising the rev limiter? My car will be getting a tune next year (I hope).

BNR tunes raise the rev limiter on the auto to 6500 in P/N, higher in all gears if you get valve springs

Hi,
TRIFECTA tuning products raise the park / neutral rev limiter to 5500 RPM by default, but if you want something different, just let our team know when you place your order.

However, if your car has a manual transmission, you should know there are two other limiters that come into play that, as far as we know, no other tuners can modify. We leave them alone by default, but if you wanted them modified we can take care of that for you also.

The first is launch assist. Here, the engine is limited to around 4000 RPM until the vehicle is moving a certain speed.
The second is driver demand related. Here, the engine is effectively limited to around 4500 RPM by pulling the driver demand torque to a negative value, also, until the vehicle is in motion.

My understanding was that you bought the vehicle used with the oil cap installed, and the oil cap didn't fit with the logo perfectly horizontal, because they are made to be at a 45* angle. If that is not the case or I have you confused with someone else, I apologize, but that is what I thought was the resolution. If the issue was not resolved, please email us again with an update and we will work with you to resolve it.

Your oil cap does not work with the valve cover on my engine. When I received the car, your cap was simply sitting in the oil fill hole. The fitment to install it is extremely tight and hard to turn. Even when installed, the cap lets oil bypass. I was not concerned about the angle of the logo. My concern was the cap might have been bottoming out and sitting on top of camshaft. I bought an OEM oil cap which came with a filler neck. That fits and does not allow oil to bypass.

Based on this information and the communication via email, it was determined your oil cap is not compatible with the valve cover on my engine. This was not communicated as a response to my question I posted to BNR on this forum. Instead, the response implies I am able to use the oil cap and I was only concerned about the angle of the logo.

LMAO. This is hilarious. Okay personally I’d try ZZP. They have built the worlds fastest Sonic. But it takes major money to get one there and many re-tunes. The trifecta tune didn’t work out so hot for a Canadian on YouTube. All these guys have ways to manipulate things. I talked to one of the tuners over at ZZP very accommodating and honest. I have a RS Automatic. He said you can do this and that. But at the same time keep in mind that tranny isn’t going to go very far and it’ll rob you of power anyways. Already knew that. But I appreciated him saying it up front.

The automatic in Chevy Sonic isn’t like the ZF8 Auotmatic in my old BMW M235i. That thing could shift gears and fast and also take a lot more power. So he had a point. Since I have an auto that’ll never be great. If I tune it’ll just be for a little extra fun. But I’m doubting it’s worth it considering the cars I have had. Manual yeah. Theirs more to be had.

The auto trans is just fine, we went 13.4 on a GTX14 with a small nitrous shot with a 3300LB fully loaded Sonic RS Auto. Not once. Not twice. But that car saw over 400 passes down the 1/4 mile and won 2 NHRA bracket racing championships without a single hiccup from the stock transmission. It will be fine.
