The current 6th gear cruising rpm (with 215/55/17 tires, 26.3" diameter)
60mph: 1706 rpm
55mph: 1564 rpm
6th gear cruising rpm with 3.35 final gear
60mph: 1566 rpm
55mph: 1435 rpm
That's a significant highway cruising rpm drop. Other benefits - more time to wind out turbo in gear... more fun on the freeway and at high speeds, higher gear is less shock on drivetrain components over the transaxle's lifetime.
It'll be a fun garage project for next year and hopefully will learn some things about this M32 transmission to share with the forum.
Was this a successful mod?
How did the setup work out?
Did you swap final drive ratio or just 6th gear.
I've got an RS. I'd love to swap 6th gear with something taller than the 6th gear in my Lt. I love gears 1-5 but 6th is just too short
Couldn't you just source the entire Euro m32 worth the gear ratio you're looking for? Maybe it's just our US spec that's goofy and there are better ratios available there?
I've been searching for an ultra-rare Borg Warner NWC T5 that came bolted up to an Isuzu 1.9L gas motor in '82-'84 S10/S15 trucks. I plan to swap it in the Isuzu truck (or use the Isuzu bellhousing/input shaft) to get rid of the Isuzu MSG trans for good, but parts are hard to come by.
Not a Sonic, but I picked up a '92 Isuzu pickup last week:

Super cheap, 300,000 miles, the thing runs like a top I can't believe it. A/C blows cold and heater core works. This will be my parts hauler and work truck.

Another one you probably can't find, but may be the same transmission, is the 5-speed that came in 1982-1985 (maybe only 1984) Camaros and Firebirds that were equipped with the Iron Duke 4-cylinder. I would bet that was the same setup in the S10.
Upon further checking, it looks like it only had a 4-speed. I would have sworn our 1984 Firebird had the 5-speed.
My buddy used to drive a Red Dragon just like this. Yours is much nicer though!

Do you have part numbers or links to where you bought all your stuff? Could you do a write up on it?
