Turbo oil return pipe

Hi Guys and Girls.
Well I had to replace the turbo on my Sonic. Done that and the new one had an oil leak so I removed it again just to find out that the oil return pipe was broken just under the 2 bolt flange. Now for the life of it I dont understand how deep the new one has to go in the block. Both are the same size. Has any one done this before? Does only the piece with the two o rings go in the block and the actual bracket holds the pipe with the plastic clip?
