Technically car rental places can't legally sell you insurance on their rentals. They are not licensed to. Mention that to them and watch what their reaction is.

Not usually any clutch related Items and grabby clutch is not usually a throwout bearing failure anyways

Sh*t they still mail me those damn extended warranties for my poor '03 Dodge SRT-4 I crashed a very long time ago, and get this, they always say in bold writing that my original factory warranty will expire soon, way too ****ing funny!

Seriously, those things are a big waste of $ imho. The stealership will do anything to sell you extra crap on top of your new car. The one I bought mine at tried to swindle me into paying for a $1000 paint/interior protector, which my credit union fought & eventually won. I really didn't want to pay for it myself cuz the stupid salesman messed up & told me that we could probably negotiate that extra charge since it cost them nothing (free) to put on the car (they apparently did this to all their cars to protect them anyways). He was trying sooo hard to sell it that he didn't realize he was putting his own foot in his mouth lol! Put my monthly payments waaay lower, plus the Sonic was made to be simple & trouble/worry free anyways, plus I might end up trading it in down the road, who knows...

I have rental coverage on my car's insurance plan. They also insure the rental car when I am driving one (as I am right now, because Malikah is in the shop).

The reason why extended warranties are different from dealership to dealership is because it's the dealership selling it, not GM. My brother works in retail and extended warranties are where the stores/dealerships really make money. All those extra services and add-ons! When they sell a new car, they make about $500 because they had to purchase the car from GM. When they sell the extended warranty, they make at least 75% of the sale because there is no capital.

Upon purchasing my Sonic I again purchased the warranty and GAP. The warranty is for 84/85k and cost me $2400 (thinking I overpaid). Since purchasing my car I've added an Eibach pro-kit and a Magnaflow cat-back exhaust. So, now I've been wondering whether or not I should cancel the coverage and put it back into the balance owed on the car. Looking back I wish I had just foregone the warranty and especially now with the couple mods I've made. Anyway, any thoughts of what you would do if you were in my shoes?

My thoughts on warranty is that I have voided a fair bit of mine so far and am not worried. If something fails due to any changes I have made I will replace it with new or make/buy a better replacement.

True that. At this point I'm not sure what it would cover since I've modded the suspension, exhaust, stereo...

I just kept saying 'no' and the finance guy eventually just said he used a coupon he had and put it on free of charge its only a 7 year/46k bumper to bumper, but im less interested in that then the powertrain warranty, and after reading what the cover under the bumper to bumper...i think ima start modding sooner!

Warranty is great for peice of mind tho...i suppose until you get to the dealer and they skrew you with all the fine print you didnt know about xD

Under normal circumstances the following should be covered under the Emissions and Powertrain Warranties. Your Powertrain Warranty would cover hot spots depending on what the root cause is related to. You can check with your dealership's Warranty Manager for further details. Hope this information is helpful.

Federal Emissions Warranty:

• Air injection reactor (AIR) pump, Air distributor and valves.
• Pulse AIR valve and associated parts.
• Positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve and associated parts.
• Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve and associated controls.
• Power control and EFI systems. *
• Intake/exhaust manifolds turbocharger and supercharger.
• Catalytic converter system.
• Sealing devices and mounting hardware.
• Exhaust system up to the catalytic converter.
• Distributor parts and associated controls.
• Spark plugs and ignition wires. *
• Fuel tank filler cap restrictor and vapor control valves.
• Evaporative emission control carbon canister and associated controls.
• Emission related hoses, clamps, belts, pulleys, tubes, fittings and wiring harness used on the above components
• Mass Air Flow Sensor

Powertrain Warranty:

• Gasoline engines - Cylinder Block and heads, and all internal parts, intake manifold, timing gears, timing gear chain or belt and cover, flywheel, harmonic balancer, valve covers, oil pan, oil pump, engine mounts, seals, and gaskets, water pump; also turbocharger and supercharger housings and internal parts, valves, seats, and gaskets.
• Transmission - Case and all internal parts, torque converter, vacuum modulator, seals and gaskets and transmission mounts, also transfer case and all internal parts, seals and gaskets.
• Front Wheel Drive - Final drive housing and all internal parts, axle shafts, constant velocity joints, front hub bearings, seals and
gaskets.
• Rear Wheel Drive - Axle housing and all internal parts, axle shafts, bearings, supports, seals and gaskets propeller shafts. U-joints.

I have an exhaust leak in/on my downpipe before my cat and was quoted $600 to repair from my local dealer. It's a 2013 with 61k miles on it. After reading this quote from you I believe my repair should be covered under the emissions warranty...

I also have an exhaust leak, still not 100% where because for the dealer to even open the door to our cars, they charge an $85 fee. I was also told that I have no coverage for an exhaust leak of any kind, due to that fallig under the 3/36,000 mile Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty and NOT the powertrain. I'm not sure what sense is made there, but I guess. Mine is a 2014 LT Sedan with 60K miles. Bought an additional warranty the day it rolled off the lot but still, nothing. If you hear anything else, please let me know.

YOU must properly maintain the covered VEHICLE as recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. If requested, proof of required service, including receipts and work orders showing date and mileage of the VEHICLE at the time of service, must be presented to US in the event of a FAILURE or CLAIM.

Does this mean you're fudged if you do your own oil changes?

May vary from dealer to dealer, but if you have receipts for the oil and especially the filter, can't imagine being turned down.
