I replaced the regulator (actually whole regulator/motor assembly) today. As an aside, neither driver's side nor passenger side window switch would work. I assumed both wouldn't go bad at same time; therefore must be regulator. Replaced passenger side switch and it works (after it wouldn't work with new regulator).
Anyway, to the point of the thread. I bought the replacement regulator from Amazon, so I don't know what brand it is. Got it in fairly easily, and torqued the window sash clips that grip the window to the prescribed 80 inch-pounds. After a time or two all the way up/down, the window would come out of track. I checked things carefully, still falling out of track.
I was getting frustrated. Dr. Google was no help. No mention of this type of problem, other than some yayhoos saying silicone/glue needed to be added. (note: old regulator has no evidence of silicone/glue, and instructions make no mention). So this tip may be the first on the internet.
Check the rubbery parts of the window sash clips. The new ones were hard, not rubbery/grippy at all. I put the old rubber on the new regulator, and all is well. I think the hardness just wouldn't allow grip.
