I have a few hobbies that I support, some more than others.
1. MTB. Actively ride 2 times a week or more, but with work it's hard to get out more than the two times on Saturday and Sunday. My MTB cost more than 4 of the cars that I've owned in the last 3-4 years. Cost rating - 6/10. Buy-in is expensive but regular maintenance and parts cost is reasonable (compared to wheeling a truck).
2. Offroading. Modified and extensively wheeled two rigs in the last 9 years. Met some of the most interesting, kind, honest and generally good people in this field. It's far from being a strictly redneck activity if you stay away from mud bogs and stick to actual wheeling. Cost rating - 8/10. It gets expensive very fast.
3. Camping, hiking and backpacking. Cost rating - 3/10. Very cheap once you have the gear you need for what you want to do. Quality gear will last you years and years (not including clothes, of course). Once you got the gear - it's mainly the cost of gas, especially if you take more of a minimalistic approach.
4. Beer. Self-proclaimed beer snob. Drink primarily small microbrew and favor IPA/Porters in the cooler months and weiss on really hot days on the patio. Cost - ???
