DIY Exhaust
Finally got rid of the stock muffler. I'm saddened by the fact the great exhaust tip for the RS is part of the muffler. I'm going to save it and hopefully an exhaust shop can cut it off and weld it on.
Getting the muffler off was a breeze with my good friend reciprocating saw
Getting the pipes on however was a lot more difficult than I thought it would be. Everyone said the diameter of the post-resonator exhaust was 1 3/4in. Those pipes didn't slip on to the stock pipe. I had to get 1 7/8in pipe and tighten the crap out of the exhaust clamp. It works for now, but will need some high-temp JB weld to fill in where the pipe bowed out from being tightened so hard.
Is it pretty? No way.
Is it louder? Yeah but definitely not crazy and has a lot of bass in the tone
Is it better than a catback? Definitely not, but for $50 all in from AutoZone you can't go wrong.
Does anyone know of any shops still selling a straight through catback, or one with just a resonator?
