what should I pay for a sonic RS, what did you pay

So my fuel bill in my 2000 Cherokee a month ranges from 400.00 to 500.00

I want to buy a new Sonic RS and am trying to get a ballpark figure of what I will pay for them. I know options make a difference but they do have a base platform they sell them at with some options added which in the end do not make much of a difference and destination fees are different from place to place. I am looking for one with automatic and of course the 1.4 turbo they come with. I also live in Washington state.

That being said what should I be looking for to pay. They keep playing the game of telling me they don't make much money on it and show me the invoice that SUPPOSEDLY shows what they pay, the preferred price and then the sticker price. I think they have more room to come down than they are telling me. They are trying to sell me one at preferred price. 20k to 21k

I do not know about all vehicles, but for ALL Chevrolets sold new in the United States, there is a set fee for each model line and it matters not if you take delivery a mile from the plant or 3000 miles.

Invoice is a good price. The dealer makes ten times as much for selling a new Corvette at MSRP as would be made selling a new Sonic at MSRP.

Preferred price is a little over invoice but the dealer can not add the document preparation fee so for the Sonic they are close. GM Card points can not be used with preferred pricing so I usually go for invoice.

What you may be thinking of is the 2-3% holdback which if a dealer sells at invoice is their profit. Sometimes dealers get an additional 2% for taking/selling certain (usually unpopular or equipped with unpopular options) vehicles and for end of model year sales.

I paid $18,500. haggled for a couple days with a dealer online. they kept insisting on some charge for glass etching. finally decided that i could skip it. figured out why after i picked the car up, it was already done. my RS doesnt have a sunroof and its a manual transmission.

I just looked at true car and my target price is higher than what I actually paid.

There is only so much room to option up the RS, I think adding a sunroof and the extra expense of an automatic transmission. Already having all the bells and whistles (plus many that aren't on LS/LT/LTZ like real leather and rear discs) come standard is part of the perk of buying an RS.

I walked out with a bill under 20k with student discount and preferred pricing. Timing of the purchase will make a difference too. You should be able to get a '13 RS for less now than when I bought mine in February.

My sonic was just over 21k and I have the sunroof and RS package, I did trade in my previous car so I walked out with only having to finance 6k for it.

I am seriously looking at the sonic RS as a car to keep for awhile as the dealer in my area is offering lifetime warranty, free carwashes and oil changes for life. so this car if I maintained it could be around for a long long time. price I am getting is in the 20k to 21 k range with no sunroof.... just tryin to fit it in my budget after my divorce and all the money I still owe.

thanks, this did help. they keep showing me the invoice and price sheet they have in the office, not on the car... tryin to sell it to me at preferred. got them to drop down another 500.00 on that but then the 1000.00 rebate is used in there thinking.

Price with warranty? If so, ...ok. If not, talk them down a few.

I paid $18,500 for my RS back in May. it is a manual trans and with sunroof. I guess part of it is how good of dealer you have. some are willing to go down in price. I was treated pretty good at my dealer and ended up buying another car through them. Mine came with Tinted windows, the clear bra and a flashy brake light (which I didn't really care for). Being this late in year, you shouldn't being paying more than 18,500 at all. I lucked out and was able to get a good deal, but it did pay off to the dealer cause I bought another car through them 2 months later.

I wish they stuck with the exhaust coming out the middle though. That'd be sweet.

GMS is the way to go but unless you are GM employed or have a direct relation such as parent, sibling, child that path is closed.

I don't have an RS but used my wife's grandfathers GM Employee discount and it dropped the price an additional $1900.

GM Prefered pricing for west Michigan on todays date puts a 2013 Sonic RS manual with sunroof at $19,871 with current offers/rebates while MSRP would be $21,845. The longer you wait, the more discount you can get. Try using gmfamilyfirst.com and use their pricing tool . This shows many different pricing options and rebates the regular GM site doesn't.

Not for an RS, but just a comparison...

Sticker on my LT was $19K and some change. I got them down to $17 and some change. With a trade in, I ended up financing $12300.

There was a labor day discount, GM student discount, and a Sonic discount. I did about $1500 better than what truecar.com estimates. I think I did well.

I see most of you with the better pricing are down south or east of me.. up here in the pacific northwest I think we on average pay more for cars due to shipping, taxes, etc etc.. just found a 2013 RS fully loaded with sunroof, auto trans and granite black with 8500 miles. fools wanted 23k for it, now down to 19750.00 still too much and too close to the price of a new one here. lookin to get it at around 18k-18.5k if I can get them down more... this is also the dealership that offers lifetime warranty and other perks. so want to deal with them but I really don't need the car, a want not a need type thing. I appreciate all your responses and info

I did look at your site there previously and did research all around me. prices are just up. I have to make sure this is the car I am gonna want to drive for awhile. I keep my vehicles for longer than most. that and I would like the price to be down about a grand and then I would buy it on the spot.
