What size axle nut??

Hi,

I measured the axle nut to be 36mm. I borrowed a 36 socket from the auto store, and the over all outside diameter of the socket, is too big to fit into where the axle nut is recessed into. Seems like the nut is recessed into hub.

What socket is everyone using to to get access to the nut?

Is it an impact socket, or a normal chrome socket? Because the former is considerably thicker than the latter.

Had the same issue ended up having to reduce the size with a grinder. The one you can get from AutoZone won't fit and you'll have to find something thinner.

I know it's an old thread, but my neighbors axle nuts are 35mm. Finding parts for this car is like looking for needles in a haystack.

3/4" Drive Standard Chrome Sockets are available in 36mm, I had it as part of my set at work. Adapt down to 1/2" Drive for most of us and use 1/2" Drive Ratchet or Breaker Bar.

Buy decent quality tools. I was doing suspension work at home, adjusting height of leaf springs in drop brackets on my pickup. I used a low priced 3/4 to 1/2" Impact Drive Adapter with 3/4" Breaker Bar and a short cheater. The Adapter broke quite easily. Impact tools are actually softer to take the pounding, they give a bit. Chrome tools are stronger.

Hmm strange, I have a 1/2” 36 mm impact socket that i use on mine, it just makes it into the ID of the bore on the hub. Tight slip fit. Might be that your impact socket is wider on the OD, or could be corrosion buildup on the ID of the bore that youre trying to get the socket into.
Also you have to remove the wheel to get onto it, removing the center cap and going at it with the wheel still on wont work. Ive tried, but the ID of the center of the wheel is smaller than 36mm.
