So this damn thing broke and nobody knows what the hell its called. Crazy the amount of issues ive had with the cooling system in this thing. 3 water pumps, 3 hose replacements, thermostat, and now a broken thingy-ma-bob..

That is the top fitting to the water outlet (comes with the part) i replaced that unit last week because the larger hose connection on it was busted.

This is the part.

You will need a E10 star socket and the bolts are torq'd to 71inch/lbs., you have to disconnect the charge pipe from the throttle body to get to the lower bolt and to have room to work. You dont have to drain the entire system to replace this, just to the lowest point of the block/water outlet connection point (or you could flush the entire system). When filling it, to save time burping the system, leave the reservoir floating and the top hose from reservoir to the water outlet disconnected. Fill till you see the coolant reach the almost the top of the water outlet and reconnect the fitting and put the metal clip back in. connect the reservoir to the body, top off and burp the system. Took me total time (at night snowing) about 1.5 hrs completely flushing the system, replacing part, refilling and driving driving for 10 mins.

Ya, i had my hoses fail as well, i decided to go with DDM's silicone kit. The quality over the oem crap is worth it.

Haha... I was actually going to see if i could find a company local to me that could get one made up. While I was at it, would see if they could also do the cam/value cover out of billet alum (and also make it so that the rupture disk would be replaceable/serviceable).

I don't know if it just me.. but plastic parts/components just rubs me the wrong way.. I know they do make some really strong and good quality polymer's.. but its plastic and to me I know its going to breakdown and degrade.. or something gets torq'd wrong it...

Yup. just broke mine too.

I broke the little 90 degree fitting clean off! Its like a 1/4" or 5/16 barb X some weird push in little plastic clip BS.

You'll find that practically every make has delicate parts of some kind on their cars these days...

Definitely not a GM thing. These compact cars are made in Korea...I think...I know they're not made in America ha. So everything is made to save money....which ends up costing the customer more in the end....Having to replace the water outlet myself ha.

My entire coolant system and hoses have all needed to be replaced. Apparently it’s common with our cars. Also, I’ve never had any of my factory recalls done ( if there are any that is)
How can I check for factory recalls for my 2012 Chevy sonic? It’s the bad model with a manual transmission ( car has 123,000 miles on it and still has the original clutch - just saying )

The Sonic was not made in Korea. They were made in Michigan.

Now many of the plastic parts are made in various countries.

That said, the design for Sonic was U.S. based and Korea.

And many of the engines were made in Europe. . Hungary for instance.

To me, this is a benefit because Sonic parts are available in many parts of the world. In Australia the SOnic is called Barina. In parts of Europe it is Aveo. And the list goes on.

Every modern day manufacturer gets plastic and other parts made and supplied from many foreign countries.
