Wheels and warranty questions...

Well on the way home in the snow about 20 minutes ago Imade a booboo. Some dbag in front of my was attemptign to be a drift king in a ford ranger and spun causing me to ditch towards the shoulder (at about 15mph btu still) and i turned the wheel slightly, and pumped the brakes a wei bit so abs didn't make me slide straight, well i got traction like i wanted to, but put my wheel into the curb in the process. It still holds air and I will post a picture in the monring. But it's got a nice gouge in it and I would like to know if i can have it replaced under warranty or will i have to either A. dish out cash I don't have or B. go through insurance? it looks like it split a little where the bead edge meets the spoke like a fine start of a seem split, and it worries me. info please!?

Most likely not seeing as it wouldn't be manufacturer defect thats about all it covers unless you bought the tire hazard warranty when you bought the car

The warranty will not cover this situation as the damage was the result of a collision with another object. Insurance will repair the damage, but your collision deductible will be in effect, and most likely increase your rates in the future. This unfortunately isn't a comprehensive type claim as it wasn't the result of fire, theft, vandalism, act of god, or collision with an animal. Those type of claims normally won't affect your rates. Sometimes the collision deductible is more than the damages. You probably will be better off to just pay for the damages, and avoid an insurance claim for this type of damage.

i have a zero deductible but yeah, I don't feel like having that issue.

I agree, insurance rates tend to go up steeply (or fail to drop steeply) based on your number of accidents and I very much doubt saving the price of a wheel would be worth the added cost over the years.

Even if someone else had been entirely at fault, and their insurance would pay for everything, it would still be recorded as an accident you were in and your rates would still be affected, again, cheaper to replace the wheel and not get that in the system.

Everyone else pretty much said it all, and since you would likely cover smaller incidents like this out of pocket, raise your deductible from that zero to at least $250 and save way more than that in lower premiums - even if you cover things like this from time to time it's a net savings.
