Which Intake?

Great information here on the current intakes available for the 1.4, this should be a sticky post with both DDM and ZZP giving good input.

Does anyone happen to have a photo of the red powder coat finish for the DDM set up? Also does the powder coating additional cost cover the heat shield as well or just the tubing? If not what’s addition cost?

bringing this one back... serious debate between zzp and ddm.
I dont have an issue with diy tasks and taking out the insert but i'm looking to get the trifecta tune as well.. Now in your opinion which should i buy first or which will be best with the tune?

Tune 1st! Not only does it seriously boost the torque and HP in the 1.4t but the improved throttle response/behavior makes it much more pleasant to drive.

It's that good, and if you get the "full tune" you can always datalog for new mods as you install them. Although the "budget tune" with ECP (both tunes use it) allows the ECM to automatically adjust for aftermarket intakes, so if you don't plan for many mods it may be a better choice for you. I recommend skimming thru the "official sonic trifecta tune thread" in BNRs section if you haven't already (the 1st post answers alot of questions.


Best intake is tricky, you've seen the discussion in here with some very technical info. ZZP and DDM are both solid performers but without dyno charts It's hard to claim one as superior.
I like my ZZP and the members with DDM like theirs, I think if we swapped intakes we'd still be happy lol. I recommend you pick whichever of those that appeals the most to you...... And don't get the Injen.

I'm going to be doing the full tune. Everyone is telling me to wait for the sale where you get the cable but idk if I can wait lol I have a mod addiction. And I think I'm going towards zzp unless I had the ddm one powder coated

In addition to the basic shape controversy between the two, you have to consider DDM has the heat shield. Only, I hear they now are also marketing a shield that fits on the ZZP?

Personally, I am still considering returning to the SAB, which is the only true CAI on the market, although I guess the heat shield makes DDM a close second. Removing what someone called the "power reducing saxophone" and replacing the accordion intake with Spectre, SAB might end up being the best of the lot.

I really wish I had a Dyno that was quick and easy, the few times I've tried to arrange one it was always "you need an appointment a month in advance" and I don't know where I'm going to be in three days, much less 30.

I know what you mean, you gotta look out for the dyno days where they're usually reduced prices and a set day. I am horrible at making appointments

I recently reinstalled my SAB and stock down pipe. All the noise just got old. Car still runs great with the tune and is much more civilized to drive.

I just intalled the DDM w/Heatshield. Love the sound. That gets my vote.
