Why did you choose Sedan or Hatchback?

Almost every single car I've owned has been a hatch, and I'm just tired of them. Always liked the look of sedans, and like the fact I can keep stuff safer in the trunk. The hatch just seems so...vulnerable. Someone else on here also mentioned the hatch looks like a kids toy car to them, and I have to agree. Just a personal preference thing.

Well, my Sonic ordered on 11/3/11 went to event status 3000 on 11/8/11 and is still there today.
After 2 months with no progress, I am a bit frustrated. Fortunately I am under no obligation to buy it when it arrives.
I ordered because 1.4T Sonics were not in circulation; but now, I think I can find one locally that suits me.

At this point, I'm not real strongly decided either way between the hatchback and the sedan and would really appreciate input on your preference and why.

I chose a hatchback because I needed something that was versatile. When the rear seats are laid flat, there is a ton of cargo room. I was able to put the box that my toro snow blower came in inside the hatch (21" snow blower). My Kicker powered subwoofers were installed on the rear seat backs and sound nice and are easy to access...

personally, i originally chose sedan because it offered more rear leg room (i'm 5'9 boyfriend is 6'2 brother is 6'3 friends are all tall...) went to the dealer and they couldn't find what i wanted and wouldn't order it so i went to another dealer that had the sedan just not in the color i wanted and saw the hatch that was everything i wanted minus being sedan. but hey, my boyfriend and I are trying to start a family so my hatch will be much easier to get a stroller in and out of

I think the hatch offers a little more head room.... that will come in handy when you have to retrieve the little one from the back seat..

Sedan FTW!

OK, so I think I'm in the minority here, but first, I prefer the looks of the sedan, and second I like the separate (and very spacious!) trunk. Oh, and I still have my 2010 Colorado, so if I need to haul anything I can use the truck. Plus the split fold-down rear seat is amazing!

I see people's point: the sedan is a bit bland, and the hatch has its own, ummm, personality, but the sedan serves me better. Also, I've never owned a 4-door sedan! My coworkers call it my "grandpa car". My first new car was a 1978 Honda Accord 3-door hatchback, after which I went to small SUVs for a few years...then it's been all pickup trucks since 1988.

Basically, time for a change, and I don't regret it one bit!

Well, because the sedan looks kind of, well, boring in my opinion. Lol. I’m just personally not a fan of any sedan of any kind. Love my Sonic hatchbacks (despite their flaws) though!

I agree, however it seems to me that hatchbacks all look pretty much the same, there are just fewer of them. For me the Sonic has the advantage of being union made in the US by an American company.

If I had known I was going to end up with a Sonic, I probably would have picked the hatchback, to be honest. But I was sold a sedan, as that was the only one they had for my price range, though I'm happy with it.

I didn't choose the Sonic sedan we have except that it was a better choice than the Toyo-duh roller skate and the 2013 Hyun-doi in the lot in our price range. Never really cared for the hatchback subcompact cars. Always thought that they looked like something bit the butt off of them.

I know that this is a REALLY old post, but I got rid of my 97 Ford Explorer, and everything that was in the back of it, (a LOT since we put everything in my workshop in it,) fit in our sedan. So much stuff that it weighed down the back of the car enough that the steering was VERY sensitive.

I've always been a wagon/hatch guy. Cant really explain it I just like the chopped off rear look. Used to own a Mazda 3 hatch and an Impreza hatch, though they were both base models so much happier with the Sonic.

Cost too much to get my trans am up, need a dependable daily driver, wanted a manual with turbo that wasnt too much of a glut for gas and could fuel up using regular or premium. Chose the hatch over sedan because it looks better (IMO). Surprisingly cheap for a chevy.

I like the Sonic hatchback over the sedan because:
1. It is more compact (length is 159 vs 173 inches), so easier to fit in parallel parking, etc.
2. With the rear seat folded down, can fit my bicycle in the hatch without taking the wheels off.
3. I like the looks much better.
(The Spark (145 inches long) is too small to fit the bike.)

I had a sedan when I was single but now I have a hatchback since I have a family now. Personally I like sedan more but what to do.. :blankface:

Wondering. . . with those TWO Kicker subs on the seat backs. . . . I would think that they no longer offer a "flat" cargo area with the seats down. They look like they are pretty much in the way to me and take away much of the ease of loading anything in the cargo space with them on the seat backs. !! ? ? ?

Also, risk of damaging them and wiring to them.

Don't get me wrong, I think they both look really nice (especially after the facelift). But I've been a hatch guy for years, so getting the hatch was just natural for me. My dealer didn't have any sedan RS's, and when I saw my hatch on the lot I was instantly mesmerized.

I prefer a sedan because it looks better in my opinion and it has folding rear seats. That feature enables me to shove longer boxes into the trunk without problems. Also, hatchbacks have the annoying issue with the rear window getting dirty when driving in the rain, hence the mandatory rear wiper/washer. No such issue with the sedans. Also, you can have 5 passengers in a sedan and still have plenty of space for luggage because this small car has a surprisingly large trunk. Try that in a hatchback.
