Why I got a sonic. How about you?

So I got in a car accident a few months back and car was totaled.. insurance gave me money I needed something quick because I was driving my dads Ram with a V8 that was sucking on my wallet hard!
Any ways got the Sonic because it was affordable for quick purchase.
Good fuel economy.
I liked the "aggressive" look
....I found my old car on craigslist for part out check it out Parting out 2007 Chevy Monte Carlo!


So why did you get the sonic? keep it short and sweet.

(I searched for a similar post and didnt find, sorry if there is one, but regardless i wanted to share my accident)

I got the Sonic because of the test drive. I had taken a quick look at a Sonic when they first came out and thought the rear seat leg room was lacking, but I liked the styling and features. Well, I went back to give it another shot and when I properly adjusted the front seats I fit just fine in the rear, so I took a 1.8L/5-Speed out for a drive and that was it. I found an in-transit Turbo and bought it before it hit the dealer.

I was considering basically all of the usual competition because my first choice, the Nissan cube, was sold out and not going to be available for a while. The Sonic seemed to be as close to perfect as it could get for a subcompact.

Oddly enough, the Sonic wasn't even on the radar for me when I started looking. I wanted a reliable commuter so I was looking at the Fit, Golf, Impreza, Focus, but at the time I lived near a Chevy dealership and the Sonic was getting decent reviews so I decided to take a look. I wouldn't say I was sold after the test drive, but I liked it. In the end I think the Sonic was the car that checked more boxes for me than any other. Price, runs quiet, handles nice, etc. I would have prefer a coupe, but you can't have it all I guess.

I got the Sonic because I saw it in the Chevy Sonic's First Kick-flip Commercial. I needed a car anyways and I saw that this one looked badass in the commercial and starting at like 14k sold me.

price was right. i needed a car badly that was reliable and good on gas. and I had researched the crap out of it before as it was being brought into the limelight and in production. Loved the style and looks. had a nice motor in it. Once i saw it in person and test drove one. i knew i had to have it. Huge Trunk (Sedan). lots a room for a smaller car. Love my Sonic! Plus when considering certain used cars, the potential the sonic had was far greater and more reliable than any used car. so i went with the Sonic!

I bought mine for the gas mileage. The looks and the fact that it is a blast to drive were bonuses.

I bought mine because of Trifecta's tune. If their tune wouldn't have been available I simply wouldn't have purchased the car.

I started shopping when i cracked the fuel rail on my Toyota, I called a buddy of mine that works at my local Chevy dealership to see if i could get my hands on a SS/SC Cobalt. He did his best and could only find me the SS/NA car and thought i should look into a Cruze since it came with a turbo. I started looking at the car on the Chevy site and saw the Sonic offered the same motor and trans in a smaller car and thought "hey that's hot rodding 101, Better motor from a bigger car stuffed into a smaller chassis" took it for a drive and fell in love. It looks aggressive has plenty of get up and go, Great MPG (I still get better MPG that a co-worker that brags about his Prius) and it's all still very affordable. I sold Chevy's for 3 years and i wish they had this car back then, IMHO it's the best fresh idea GM has had since the Corvette and Camaro.

Went to look at a base camero and saw the sonic. It looked good and was more comfortable to me. Power felt about the same between the teo so figured I'd save money on gas and the car price, even with the ltz and turbo I was thousands less than a base camero. Plus the hatch back makes hauling cargo a lot easier than the camero would have been.

Salesman are dummies, You never knock what the customer is thinking about buying. Only say good things about what ever choice they made and help them out.

Price and gas milage and my GTP was becoming a money pit were the main reasons I got the Sonic. We have a cruze and I already knew/liked the drivetrain so the Sonic was already looked at but went in for a '12 camaro LT with the M6, test drove a mini cooper s , cruze eco and a Caliber SRT while I was there and almost went for the Caliber except it had 40k miles on it and didnt want to get back in a situation like I was with my grand prix. The Camaro would have been $100 more a month which I was fine with but winter drive-ability took precedence and ended up with my ride. No regrets here.

I got my sonic after seeing them in Sema 2011 they had 3-4 of them and I really liked the look of the car and I even told the guys I was with that I was gonna get one, almost a year later and I now have one

I only have a sonic because the Kia Rio SX Automatics were no where to be found (fortunately for me). While waiting I test drove the Hyundai GT and found it gutless with sluggish accelleration. I liked the veloster initially but 3 doors instead of 4 was a deal breaker for me (I have two toddlers.) I test drove a turbo sonic at lunch just for the heck of it and was sold on the drive! I searched the net and the next day I found a loaded LTZ in grey. Additional bonuses include...... this site and the budget tune, niether of which I knew about when I bought the car.

First off I wanted a eco car for going to work. I went and looked at the new dart 1.4t with 6 speed. Was not impressed. Saw the sonic in inferno orange and fell in love with the color . 15.9 vs 24.5 was a big difference and I took her home. About half way home I realized it dident have power windows lol buy IDC

My business requires a cargo vehicle from time to time, so I've been driving F150s for 20+ years. Current one was getting long in the tooth but the new F150s are crazy more expensive than they used to be, plus bigger, bigger engines, no manual available, just all kinds of annoying. After some thought, I figured if I got a little cheap car to do 80% of my driving in, I could keep the current F150 for another 10 years or so, spend less, have a more economical ride most of the time, best of all worlds.

In order to minimize load on the F150, I figured the ideal choice would be something like a hatchback, that could do light cargo duties, save the pickup for real need. I put together a list of possible options and started doing a comparison spreadsheet based on stats online, then went around test driving the various on-paper winners.

Among those was the Fiesta. It, like the rest of the pack, was a decent car, nothing spectacular, but in budget and everything worked decently (except that the one I drove had a battery problem). Since the dealer who's Fiesta I drove also has a Chevy lot, the sales rep asked if I wanted to drive a Sonic while I waited for him to replace the Fiesta battery. Same basic class and price point, although it hadn't made it onto my radar, so sure, why not.

That was it for me, the Sonic was quicker, more agile, more solid, and more interesting than any of the other hatches I'd driven. The sample cargo box I'd brought along fit fine with the rear seats down. I got stats and the Sonic got more impressive. For a bit more money, the 1.4T was even more impressive, not that it had more power than the 1.8, but it was more economical and just a better idea; less power when you don't need power, but all the power you want whenever you ask.

Sonic Owner's Forum really put the nail in the coffin of any other choice, this place beats any other car owner forum I found (again, I was only looking at comperable cars, who knows, maybe the Ferarri folks really have a great owners forum too)

I drove several other cars, some of which were frankly better on paper (Kia Rio), but again, they were all no better than Good Enough. Sonic is Great. Sonic plus Trifecta Tune is phenomenal.

Oh, and my initial 80% plan? I've used the Sonic for all but one cargo load, and I could have done that one but I'd have needed two trips or a roof rack... and I now have a roof rack. I'm at about 99% Sonic. Couldn't be happier.
