Winter Tires: Hankook winter i*cept evo

I just got my winter snow and ice tires installed. Hankook winter i*cept evo
They were highly rated on Consumer Reports, second only to the Michelin X-Ice..expensive.
I tried finding a USA made tire that had a good ratings, but no luck, the Uniroyal Tire Paw Ice and Snow was made in China...no China tires for me!!! (it's a long story) These are made in South Korea and only $78 a piece. Pepboys had a buy three get fourth free.
They are supposedly "Ultra-High Performance Winter", got excellent and very good reviews on CR for snow and ice traction. Another good thing is they are rated very good on noise. Looking forward to trying them out...

I got to try out the new snows a couple nights ago in the 8-10" of snow we had here in New England. The tires worked great, at first I was slamming on the brakes and pushing the corners to get a feel for the traction. I love passing SUV's on the snowy highway as they are crawling along on their sporty tires

I ran Bridgestone Blizzacks (WS-25 model?) about 8-10 years ago, more recently Dunlop Graspic and Dunlop Winter Sport M3

These Hankooks felt really good compared to the others I've tried and IMHO are well worth their good ratings.

Now all I need is a Quaife LSD...

With your new shoes and deep snow, do you run with the traction control button off? I have Nokian Hakka 7 studded snowies on my car, and with fresh new snow I find I have better control and traction in the deeper snow with the TC off. When the snow is all packed and icy, then I have the TC on, but I found more pulling power in the deep stuff without the TC. The Nokians are a great winter tire, they have really good traction in the most severe driving conditions that we get here - icy packed snow, -30 temps (that's -22 for you American readers) and fresh deep snow.

I'm running general altimax studs. And I can plow through snow no problem

Just put on a Set of General Altimax Arctic. Makes a huge Difference compared to the Stock Tires.

Not allowed to run studs in Michigan. The Firestone Winterforce have been doing just fine though. Now if only the city would learn to either leave the roads as they are after it snows, or plow after they salt. The city salted the bus route streets in my subdivision but didnt plow until several days later. This car does not do so well when its 4-6" of thick slush.
