Wobbly 12V Socket

I plug my MP3 Transmitter into the cigarette lighter socket. The socket is quite loose and wobbly. Can it be tightened? Do I have to take the whole console apart?

From what I remember from long ago, if it really is a non-accessory socket with the lighter, putting accessories into it will cause the socket to have a problem over time. Think what I did many years ago was to get an extension socket and then use the end of that instead.

I'm guessing that the socket would need to be replaced in your case.

It's a lighter socket. It's the only one. This car has no 12V accessory sockets as far as I can see. Rather than try take the console apart to see if it can be tightened, maybe I'll just run some superglue around it.

I'm not sure about that idea especially flammable liquid glue stuff at an electrical socket even at 12v or even dry...

"Super glue is generally not flammable when dry, but the liquid form can be a fire risk due to its chemical composition. It's important to keep it away from flames and heat sources while in its wet state." I don't plan to use the lighter socket for smoking while the glue is wet, or ever!

There apparently are special tools to remove and replace the socket. Maybe removal was attempted without such tools, which is why it's loose. Anyway, I superglued it in place and it's now rock solid. My MP3 Transmitter in the socket is close to my elbow and it doesn't get accidentally knocked around to where I can't see it.
