Yakima/Thule or other roof racks.

I use a Thule rear rack for my mountain bike on my current car, it has movable arms and adjustable straps. So I will just readjust it to the Sonic...

Coming home from a ride exhausted, it's too easy to forget the car on the top rack and drive into the garage

What Thule rear rack are you using on your Sonic? I have the hatchback and definitely agree with your roof rack comment. Plus, I don't want to decrease the gas mileage.

I called Yakima yesterday...they said the car was just recently made available to test and they are in the "initial phases" of fitting the car. I asked specifically about the HB, but I'm sure that means the sedan as well. They should be emailing/calling me when they have completed the fit and I will be sure to repost up here.

In terms of a hitch- The trailer hitch place in town (Sub Trailer, Tinley Park IL, GREAT people) recommends that a Class I hitch has no more than 2 bikes on it. So if you go hitch rack, 2 bike max so you don't go over tongue weight.

just received an email from Thule. It was kind of generic, it stated "check back in 4 to 6 weeks" The original email from them said i should receive a response in 3 days and it took an additional email to get that sorry answer.

as far as i know they do not and as far as i know im the first to have actually done a set of them if you have a rack n road near you i would take it there they are really good and that price i told you included install and mine come off just have 4 landing pads on the car today i added my snowrack on it

Anyone know exactly which Thule kit was on the SEMA Ricky Carmichael build? I loved the way that one looked and need a rack soon for kayaking and our Utah trip. I'm having trouble figuring out exactly which rack to get.

Try calling Thule. I'm not a fan of those aero bars with the channel for mounting rack accessories. We have that on the factory bars for our VW Rabbit and it greatly reduces the selection of carriers we can use. Thule's normal square bars are far more versatile and cheaper as well.

Those are probably the Chevy accessory cross bars. Last time I looked at the catalog the feet said Thule on them.

Is there a way to get a rack to fit multiple bikes on the Sonic? I'm wanting to try to find one that can fit two or three bikes, and maybe one that can fit one bike and a surfboard. When I drove over to my local bike shop, though, they said there isn't apparently a real guide to what fits the LTZ hatchback yet since it's so new. They also mentioned something about there not being the standard small rubber spots to remove to easily add a roof rack. Is there any final word out on how to get a rack up there? They said I may have to get some generic thing installed on the roof at a Chevy dealer, then buy a separate bike rack to pack on top of that. Is there any truth to this?

If you look back at posts 25, 26, and 30, you'll see that Yakima has already got a system for the Sonic. Thule will also if they don't already have one. As far as multiple bikes, It looks to be a 2 bike max roof width. You could always get a roof mount set up AND mount a hitch and put 2 more on the back. I bought the Hidden Hitch that took about 20 minutes to install and a 2 bike carrier to fit into it.

I think you could easily fit three up there. Two fork mounts on the outside with an upright or reverse fork mount in the middle. Should be fine on the weight limit as well unless you are putting tank-like DH rigs up there.

So GM has cargo racks now, but the image couldn't be more vague. Anyone have any details on it? I need to know if I can put kayak mounts on it. Hopefully it's Thule like the Cruze one.

That is the same photo of the Thule bars they had before only without the Thule logo. Those look like the rapid aero bars with the channel that Thule replaced with the new aero wing looking thing (same as what I have on my factory VW bars). Instead of clamping around a square or round bar like the normal Thule or Yakima bars, there is a channel in the bar that you slide a square head bolt thing in. Works well but you need to make sure whatever carrier(s) you get are aero compatible or that there is an aero retrofit kit for it.
