My 1.8 Sonic Auto MPG Read-Outs

Here i will periodically post pictures of my MPG Readings as i hit certain marks. I have the 1.8 Automatic Sonic Sedan and these photos are all of me driving my sonic in the city only. No Highway driving what-so-ever. I really dont see why so many gripe about the 1.8's MPG. I think it does great compared to my last vehicle. anythings better than 12MPG in the city that i got from my 06' Dodge Dakota!!

I average on a regular basis, 25MPG to 28MPG City...
Highway MPG is still to be determined.
Once i get my exhaust system installed in the spring and the weather breaks i will take it out on the highway and go for a nice cruise to see what i get for highway MPG.

December 9th, 2012 MPG Reading

I had a chance to Fill my Car up full and take it out on the open road today and give it a little run out on a straight shot 55mph road for a good distance to see how well my sonic does when not constantly doing city stop and go kind of traffic. Not bad, I bet if i got to take a longer trip than what i did i could get even better results. not a bad start though. Next spring/summer i plan on going on a long trip to see how well this thing really can do for MPG. Here is the results of todays running at a Final of 6,266 Miles on the car...

That's better than I ever got on my 1.8L, the best I ever saw was 27.8mpg if I remember correctly and that was after a 300mi trip with the cruise set at 80mph

There's a big difference between 55 and 80...you lose a lot of fuel economy when you're going 80.

Yea I know that but I figured I could do better than 27. I'm making the same trip soon in my 1.4t at the same speed so I will see how it compares

I had the cruise set at 56mph the whole time. The only time it wasnt was when i had to get off and stop and go when in the town area i was at. then back on the highway back home at 56mph set on cruise again. It Wasnt a long trip but was long enough to get a decent readout and idea of what i could see on a long trip. Id say i went 150 miles roughly round trip. So not bad i think.

My 1.4 gets can get down to 33mpg doing 80+ all freeway

my 1.8 got roughly 29.5 going 80 from miami to tampa, forget the distance

If I stay around 65 I'll pull 52 MPG no problem.

Im very happy with my Sonic 1.8L. In city I average from 25-28MPG. and if my latest run is anything of a sign of what my Highway mpg might be, then im completely satisfied with my MPG with this car. I'll gladly take 28-35 MPG Hwy over my previous vehicle that was a piss poor 12mpg in the city and barely 16mpg on the highway!! (had an 06' Dodge Dakota 3.6L V6, was a Gas Hog...Seriously...Very bad on gas it was...) Then i bought a Sonic!

Sonic 1.8L Highway Readout!

i finally got a chance to get my sonic out on the open road over the weekend and took it for a nice drive to allow me to see what the highway readout would be on my 1.8 6spd auto Sonic sedan. I was able to pull off a very nice 32.9 miles to the gallon average. on the way there i was doing 66mph on cruise and on the way back i was going faster so thats why its lower than it was before i started heading back. was up to 34mpg but like i said, i was a little harder on it on the way back, more traffic involved. The car ran great! was flying around with ease, passing people left and right with no problem. Loved every minute of it!

I'm finding a little more pep with 89 octane fwiw. Mileage isn't great but it's acceptible. Low 30s highway, mid 20s city. If you drive like granny the 1.8L is decent but semi-aggressive drivers like me feel the tug on the wallet with ever fast start. This at least matches my expectations for the vehicle. The 1.4L is probably better suited for someone like me, in hindsight I would have found a way to swing the extra $800.

Yeah it took it some time but after the break-in and the roadtrip I think that helped plus utilizing the manual mode to balance and soften shifts

100-150 lbs difference?

Plus the civic I'm thinking of only had a 5 speed auto.
