There is nothing wrong with the 1.8

Lots of typos! Haha, anyway man, I get the feel if you had the turbo you would be saying that you love it. If you had not bought the injen you would probably agree that it's not so great. Like eric said the N/A sonic is a great car, but every aftermarket support is gonna be secondary to the 1.4T.


Sh!t im wishing I would have bought a civic! For the money I have in this sonic I could have had a clean boosted K series putting more HP and torque to the wheels then these cars may ever make.

I sold the injen.... ya 92 Honda accord. Had a factory prototype engine. Ran like a bat out of hell . Sold it for 500 and the guy sold the engine back to honda for like 5g....

I still think the sedans are ugly...... like I said this is my opinions.I've always been more satisfied with n/a power then boost.
My 8000 lb truck will walk past my sonic any day of the week. But its all boost (42lb currently) its fun as hell but not the same.....

The sti is one of the only turbo cars I like... the new Buick with the 1.4 I'll have to admit is bad ass.

you say that you want to see the 1.8 beat the turbo. the turbo option is like what? $700 more. it would take the N/A more than 700 worth of upgrades to hang methinks.

You ever get that 1.8 over 5,000 ft altitude you will be cursing it...otherwise, meh, it motivates the car around decently for a budget rental at sea level, its no more impressive or better than most other sub 2 liter naturally aspirated motors out there, I like how Chevy tuned it, for a balance of HP and TQ...Honda motors always annoyed me with their severe lack of torque...had to rev the piss out of em.

However, let me throw one thing at you...this is 2012, in 1986 VW mass produced a DOHC 16v 1.8 that put out the exact same power as yours (KR code engine for theenico)....where is the innovation? You'd think in all that time the developments would have surpassed the smog shackles...but they haven't...where have the leaps come from even with these shackles? Dats right, forced induction and direct injection...both lacking on the 1.8, with the 1.4 only lacking one (really GM, really? come on, hop on the DI band wagon already).

I have had my share in hating on the turbos, but to be honest they are still some quick little cars. Mods or not, the chassis alone is something that fits the turbo well. I have the stock 1.8 but I bought it for that reason. I feel that people who wanted some more torque and speed bought the turbos, honestly if money wasn't an option for any of us, I highly doubt we would all be here. Everyone that gets their sonics, gets them for different reasons, but for the price, the turbo is a great little ride to mod. No reason to hate on them, just as there is no reason to hate the 1.8 for being slow. It is supposed to be slow, if we wanted fast, we would have bought the turbo or an entire different car all together.

Me too, but those cars are more than twice as much as a sonic. Tune your 1.4 and you won't feel that way anymore.

I know di can give more power but I'm glad they didn't put it in the 1.4. VW is having carbon buildup issues with their di motors
