IMO the 1.8L shouldn't exist. The 1.4L should be standard across the board in the Sonic and Cruze. More torque, better economy and no timing belt.

The second argument is the trimming belt. My honda had 290k on it when I sold it on the original belt...... its not a big deal...

It's a big ****ing deal if that belt breaks and you ruin your valves and pistons. Timing belt replacement is recommended every 97,000 miles and you do the water pump at the same time. That's a damn expensive maintenance item.

Sh!t im wishing I would have bought a civic! For the money I have in this sonic I could have had a clean boosted K series putting more HP and torque to the wheels then these cars may ever make.

But then you'd have a ****ty Civic.

I sold the injen.... ya 92 Honda accord. Had a factory prototype engine. Ran like a bat out of hell . Sold it for 500 and the guy sold the engine back to honda for like 5g....

If a belt brakes nothing happened the head is clearanced and u drift to the side of the road. As with most modern chain motors as well.

Almost 99% of modern motors are non interference



Edit: I have had a timing chains break before rare may it be it has happened

the 1.8 is an ok engine , and it gets the job done . it is one of the smoother naturally aspirated 4 cylinders that i have owned or driven and it has a lot of low end torque . the only reason i bought the 1.8 is because of the price. i originally wanted the 1.4 but since i am in Canada, they only offer the 1.4 with the ltz which would of cost me an extra 6000$ . for you americans there is no reason to cheap out and not get the 1.4 it is truly a bargain at 700$ .

I'm not saying the 1.8L is a bad engine, it's not. Hell, the Sonic I test drive that sold me was a 1.8L. I just don't see the purpose it serves besides cost savings. If GM produced only the 1.4L instead of so many 1.8Ls the cost of the 1.4L would come down and it would be negated.

Even if it does brake IDC I have a life time power train warranty I tell them fix it

Then when the wold is flooded with 1.4 u will get bored and want a different motor Cuz every one will have the same thing

Most 4 valve heads are interference heads. I wouldn't be surprised if both 1.4 and 1.8 had interference issues.

My dohc v8 is non but that's a different animal
