But I just have the stock all weather.

i've never driven in the snow, but I know that I would definitely get a dedicated set of winter wheels and tires if I lived in a snowy climate (and I'd probably have a subaru or audi with AWD).

I think it was just snow but it was dark it could have been ice. My next vehicle I want is an Audi, q5. I hope it is awd.

I'm pretty sure most if not all Audi's are AWD. If it says quatro on the back it is AWD.

It isn't too bad as long as you drive carefully. I have hardly any experience driving in ice and snow, always equip either summer or all weather tires, and have never had any trouble in 20 years of driving. Snow tires aren't going to magically cause you to follow at a safe distance. If a fair amount of driving is on slopes, tight slow turns, thick drifts and whatnot, I see them as useful. For me they have never been a necessity. Maybe I would change my tune if I ever moved out to the country, but I imagine I'd be cursing once I got to the highway and it was perfectly clear.

Only Audi's that say quattro are AWD. Others are fwd

That's what I figured but didn't feel like doing a full research. I wouldn't buy an Audi unless it said Quattro on it anyway. FWD A4 vs Regal GS, I would pic the GS any day.

Just for fun, other makes use some weird monikers to denote AWD:
Infiniti adds "x" to the model number
BMW used to add x to their sedans and used x-drive on their SUV's but now they're using x-drive on everything I think
Mercedes is 4matic
VW is 4motion
Audi is quattro even though the A3 and TT really have a haldex system like 4motion
Subaru is the only make that has AWD on every car

I almost got a TT over the summer but couldn't get the hang of manual as a daily driver. I knew someone who was moving to Florida and didn't want to take it.
