2013 A/T 1.4L Pulsing at idle?

Anyone else experience a pulsing sensation at idle in 2013 1.4L A/T?

It seems to happen most often after work at the second stop light I get to. Car has sensation of surging then slowing, approx 2 surges a second for approx 6 or 7 seconds. Then it stops and usually doesn't happen again that trip.

I can't reproduce on command and may be that I'm not holding down the brake hard enough - any ideas? I've tried pressing brake harder during surge but it didn't stop. Don't recall seeing if tach moved or not, I'll look for that next time.

This happens to my 2012. When I'm stopped, usually at a drive-thru, it will feel like I'm being nudged by the car behind me. It really freaked me out the first couple of times it happened. The first time was at a drive-thru and I could not see the headlights of the car behind me and almost went off on the guy because it felt like he was tapping me. I've since just become used to it. I figure the engine is idling up to satisfy current draw from the alternator and causing the torque converter to engage.

I get the same thing on my 2012 1.4t Auto. Usually after the car sits overnight and or at work for a while. I asked my dealer here in Greensboro about it and told me it was because I wasn't running top tier gasoline. When I told him I have ran it (after questioning who sells it) and I have also ran higher octane fuel before and still got it (which he said I shouldn't do) he said he will have a look at it. End result, he said nothing is wrong and it still happens anyway.

Yeah it happens with both top tier and non top tier and I run 93 all the time.

FastEddie, Is this the first time this has happened? If this continues, I would take it into the dealership to have them take a look at it. Please private message me if you would like for me to schedule and appointment. Keep us posted on what the cause.

Is so this is a feature know as Transmission Neutral Idle and can be normal.

When it happens place the transmission in Manual Mode if the concern is gone it is NORMAL.
If it still happens in Manual trans range there is a concern that needs diagnosis.

Yes, I am at a stop and thanks I'll give it a try next time I feel it.

Did have this issue a few times on my 8.1 Avalanche 2500 and dealer had to "do a cam relearn" or something of that sort to remedy the problem. It has 89,000 miles on it and had this done a few times anywhere from new to current. Still exists. Yes, this truck is a different beast but just throwing this out there as a possibility with the cam sensor.
