Holy brake dust batman

Glad Chevy painted the wheels "Brake dust black"

At about 400 miles I took my car to my shop to check tire pressures and swap out the stupid green caps for regular black ones and I could not believe the amount of brake dust. Is this a RS thing or are all sonics like this?

I looked it up and Akebono is the OE supplier for the 2012 sonic (no 2013 data out yet) I have always ran Akebonos in the past and I have never had brake dust nor has any car we put Akebonos on.

Any info out there from some dealer friends?

My plan was to swap them out next weekend for some aftermarket Akebonos and see how the dust is.

I haven't seen any abnormal amounts of dust on my car, although I only have half the discs you do.

Brake dust is normal during the bedding of pads, especially organic pads. I don't know offhand what kind of pads the Sonic uses, however I DO remember that I had a LOT of brake dust as well within the first 500-1000 miles. Once the pads had fully bedded, brake dust nearly disappeared all-together, even if I skip a few car washes.

Yea I have experienced the same thing, although I don't drive much (6400 miles in 15 months).
I wash my car at least every other week, preferably every week, and have never noticed a lot of brake dust since the first couple hundred miles.

Same here. I was a little worried about it at first but now that it's broken in there's not much dust anymore.

I don't think the pads are abnormally dusty, especially compared to European cars I've owned (try to pay attention to the color of BMW and Audi wheels when you drive by)

Also, I love akebono pads. They have been the best stopping and best wearing pads of any of the performance aftermarket pads I've used. No wonder these cars stop so great from the factory.

They say they are ceramic but I have never seen a ceramic dust like this. Euro stuff is really bad but that's because I believe they a use more organic mix. I don't think breaking in the pads is going to help. I have never seen a pad dust more or less based on mileage. Fwiw I have probably installed over a thousand sets of pads in my line of work.

Yes, but have you seen those cars unwashed after a few hundred miles after the install? Not trying to be a wise-ass here. Serious question, as I'd expect more dusting during bedding, depending on pad compound.
