My 1.8 Sonic Auto MPG Read-Outs

It's a valid question. A 5+ year older vehicle, with a 5 speed auto, and 1.8L engine that gets almost 10% better fuel efficiency? Something's wrong with that math IMO. [same driver (me), same routine, same gas stations/fuel source, etc]

I'm not saying I dislike my Sonic, but this is an obvious fault in a fundamental area (especially for this class vehicle).

Let the GM rep decide if it's a worthy post to reply to.

is having cruise control give you better gas mileage in either the 1.4l or 1.8l and does it matter if it's auto or manual trans. my 1.8l auto sonic sedan doesn't have cruise control.

You also have to look at sedan vs HB we all know HB will get worse mpg due to the height

If you take your sonic to the mall regularly the fuel economy improves mine did

I have a 1.8 Auto and whenver i use cruise mine goes up several miles per gallon. It also depends the speed at which you use it too. if you use it at or under 55mph it works great for adding miles per gallon to your average. but anything above that and it will take longer for it to gain but ive never seen it drop because of it either. Just seems to add more at a lower speed than the higher ones like 60+.

MPG Update - March 2013 After a 150+ mile round Trip

Today i had to make a Trip to Bedford Heights,Oh to pick up my Step-father from work so i got some miles put on my sonic. When i left my House i was at 15.9MPG Averaged. yes, its a crappy number, but its winter here so i havent been getting very good numbers all winter long. been averaging 15-20mpg around town. That includes alot of stop and go, remote starting, driving short distances ect...

After driving to Bedford Heights and Back, i ended up with a nice average of 26.9 MPG Averaged. Gotta say there are some crazy drivers up in that area!! had people cutting others off left and right. speeding around doing well over the speed limit. zipping in and out of cars. was so glad to get out of that area. But it was nice to get some miles onto my sonic. Finally broke 8000 miles today lol. yeah i know. i need to get out more! I will this summer

Current Mileage and MPG Reading - March 27th 2013

Had to make a trip to Strongsville, OH yesterday and this is the MPG readout i got after makeing the round trip... The car ran great and i can say there was no drone coming from the exhaust system while doing 65mph down the highway. Couldnt even hear the exhaust while set on cruise at 65mph. That was both with music on and music off.

This might sound likea stupid question, but anyway. How does the sonic configure its mpg that are displayed!? Ive seen in different cars that it changes allmost every second. But mine barley ever changes.

Have you reset it? This car will read out till you reset it manually. The longer you leave it without resetting the less it will show you instant readouts.

Ive never resetted mine and im averaging 31.9mpg in a 1.8 auto sedan with 50/50 city and hwy.

May 2013 Update -- 25.0 MPG and 10k Reached!

I wanted to update for May and show as of right now i am getting 25MPG in my Sonic....

Also, I have reached 10,000 Miles!! Only took me a year and 2 months to get there lol. I drive the dang car. swear! But i just live in a small town and when you dont go out of town much you just dont add up the miles. Oh well. I love my sonic either way. I myself prefer to keep the miles down and have it for a long time vs racking up the miles and having to get something else within a couple years. Everyones different lol.
