Vince and his quest for a stronger tranny. I ponder that if gm decides to put in a 1.6l turbo in the sonic if they will beef up a better tranny?

I bet the trans will be fine provided its treated with care. Manual trans tend to hold quite a bit more power than originally intended. I guess we'll see how the 1.6 goes down.. If its as good as it could be il be buying one. Just as a non related example a duramax with an auto trans which is the best light duty truck automatic needs built at about 100ft lbs tq over stock. My factory stock manual duramax trans has held over 1000 ft lbs of tq for years and many track passes. Keep in mind that the trans is rated for 520 ft lbs. Now that said, I don't think the little sonic trans is bullet proof but up until at least some one explodes one caused by power and not stupidity, then I'd look into beefing it up.

I think the more we see upgraded clutches and slicks with drag strip launches we will start to find the weak spots of the transmission.

Disappointingly enough I found out today that the "oversized" valves available are actually .075 or .150 bigger... STEMS. Not the valve opening. Its in case the valve guides get beat up you can just get new guides and valves instead of a new head. Oh well..

Off topic, but what is wrong with large corporations? The sonic tune is the way it is because of the market they were targeting. They wanted a consistent tune no matter the weather or air temp, in order to provide a consistent and safe operating vehicle. GM put much more money into research on the sonic, than any aftermarket company has or will ever put into the Sonic.

GM i feel was not expecting people to wanting this car for performance, it is an econobox, and it is a pretty damn good one stock from the factory, especially compared to the other cars in its class. That being said, i am performance enthusiast and i want more power!

second, GM is definitely marketing this car for it's "performance." from the chevy web site:

If corporations can never die, then why do so many go out of business? Without our large coporations, the middle class would never have existed. We also wouldn't be able to enjoy the level of consumerism and standard of living that we enjoy today. The U.S. lax law is very tough against domestic companies, and one wonders why they shift their company to other parts of the globe. Also i believe many people convicted of white collar crime are serving jail sentences.

GM is marketing this as a fun car to drive, in an otherwise extremely boring class of car.

Boosted- it is confirmed they are putting a direct injection 1.6T in the sonic for some markets in 2014. At this time no one is certain if it will hit these shores and when. That or its already out in some countries and is expected here in 14. God bless it can't recall which. LaborSmith knows and I'm sure he'll chime in if he sees this. I know he posted in the sonicSS thread
