Sonic engine stopped at 55mph today

I was driving down the highway today attempting to make a call using bluetooth when my engine just died.For some reason mylink wouldn't let me make a call.Next thing I know I'm coasting and the dash went blank as if I turned the car off.Well I put my 6-speed manual into neutral and restarted it.No problem after that.Bluetooth worked again too.I was concerned so I pressed the onstar button and had them run a diagnostic check.Everything was fine and onstar said they could find no problems or even a record of it happening. Anybody ever heard of this before?For some reason I feel it may be related to the problem I was having with mylink but It could also be a coincidence.Any feedback or ideas.The car runs fine now and I couldn't get it to happen again.Anybody have any thoughts to this?

That does seem eerily connected to trying to make a call...
were you doing anything differently that usual (not that it should make a difference...)
Like cruise control or anything?

I wasn't using cruise. Just trying to make a call via mylink. I hope its just a freak one time thing!

Could be a surge or something of that nature? that's all I can think of being an electrician, my mechanic skills are not up to par

my turn signal chime was the wrong noise and I have the 2012 plus radio.

The radio or any Bluetooth function in any GM vehicle can not stall the Engine. Sounds like an electrical issue for some reason like a main power or ground.

Sounds like you need to log this at your dealer. Even if they can find no codes thrown, you want to get it reported.

My 2010 Silverado had the blinker issue and it drove me insane because I wouldn't even notice that the blinker would stay on forever. But, no MyLink

That's very unusual. If that happens again, you should probably take your Sonic in and have the dealer check things out. Keep us updated.

I have 3 late model GM cars and they all have an intermittent blinker chime.
Works sometimes...sometimes not.

Let me be the first to explain the mystery of missing blinker noise....

Blinker noise is a dataline message sent from the BCM to the radio to chime the left front speaker. This message is also know as a non priority message. This means if the bus is close to peak speed from the 12 to 30 other modules using the bus for critical information then the non priority messages are delayed. There are tons of critical information on the buss, all modules send messages know as data packets on the buss, All modules recieve the data packets but not all modules pull the data from every module off the dataline, Only the messages that have been programmed to listen for that message.

Think of it as a Party line with 12 to 30 people talking very fast. Everbody on the line states there name at the begining of the message. You really dont care about everybody on the line just 8 to 15 of the people. Now not only are you recieving messages from those people but also a state of health message every few milliseconds.

So Blinker noise is not a top priority on the dataline. But information that keeps things running and your safe are. This does not happen very often and if it does check your left front speaker for proper operation.

Yeah, What he said. As far as dying at 55 MPH. Well, this certainly sounds like a typical GM electrical problem. It does sound like a ground problem. There is a chance it will never happen again. Electrical problems are the hardest to find. My guess is the ECM. Usually when multiple things go haywire, it is the ECM. That is just a guess. Drive it, watch it, if it happens even one more time, take it to Chevy.

I just figured I'd add my own experience to this, maybe see if it can be of some help in figuring this problem out. Just got my Sonic a couple days ago. 2012 1.8 auto hatchback with 6k miles on it.

Everything was running great until I decided to give it a ride on the interstate. 70 MPH and the engine stalled. Started right back up with no problem, couple miles later it did the same thing. I took it to the dealer today and 100 miles of driving on the interstate later they weren't able to recreate the problem and no codes were thrown.

Then I remember that the windshield wipers were running very sluggish right before it happened the other night. So after I got the car back I jumped on the interstate, no wipers, and no problems. Turned the wipers on after a while, they worked fine at first and slowly stalled out, and as soon as they stalled, the engine stalled. I am able to recreate this issue 100% of the time. But now I have to wait until Monday to get it back to the shop.

So if you're still having a problem, check and see if it's the wipers. It only happens at high speeds for me... Anybody have any clue why this could be happening? Bad ground on the wiper motor or something? For the record, I don't know anything about cars so that doesn't help much.

Edit: Just as a note, the wipers were set on High, not sure it it matters, though.
