i have found the on dash computer to be 2 to 3 higher then actual calulator trip meter/gallons pumped
I have been seeing a steady 31-33 and that is 25% city and rest highway at 60-75 mph
Here are my numbers after for two tanks:
1st tank
at 306 miles mix driving
25.4 mpg
2nd tank reset mpg
at 624 miles mix driving
30.2 mpg
My mpg is improving.
That's about my experience. Seems like the first few hundred miles are not as good.
My mileage on a flat highway at 65 is 38+ (1.8 auto). Most of my driving is on county roads and neighborhood streets with hills. Averaging 28+...
i just drove 412 miles from houston to OKC. It said on the dash 42.1 mpg yet the math said 36.56 mpg ... it started out saying 46 mpg on the dash when i was driving 60ish last 200 miles was a steady 74 mph... still happy i just don't like the fact the the dash is very modest always reading too high....
Hi all -
I just got a hatchback LT, 1.8L engine. I like the car a lot except for one thing - thus far the gas mileage is a bit less than stellar. I picked the Sonic over the Accent because I liked the car as a whole much more even though the fuel economy isn't as good, but I didn't expect to be only getting 20MPG. So far I've been doing city driving in pretty heavy traffic, as I'm in suburban Maryland. I'm trying to coast as much as possible, break over a distance, etc., but I just cannot seem to get this puppy much above the 20MPG mark. Any thoughts/suggestions?
Welcome!
Is that 20MPG on the car's readout or have you checked it at the pump? What kind of car were you driving previously and what kind of mileage did it get in the same driving?
It's on the car's readout, and I'm still on my first tank. And this is actually my first car, so I have no basis for comparison.
I do make shorter trips instead of longer highway commutes - I know it starts to creep up when I'm driving at night and can go longer stretches without hitting a light. I'm sure all the stop and go traffic has an impact. Still, though, dipping into the 19MPG range for city driving seems really, really low.
I would reset your avg. display and start fresh and see what you can get mpg wise. Also, you stated this is your first tank of fuel, so I would give it this tank to be well into the break in process. Also, unless I missed it, you didn't state what transmission you have? Keep us posted, because 19mpg isn't acceptable. I bet your number will improve.
elisabess, you did not mention any freeway driving, but as part of breakin you will want some extended miles at good speed. This may or may not help your mpg but it will help your engine.
