I have a 1LT 1.4T 6spd manual hatchback with trifecta tune and ZZP short ram intake.

My driving was my daily commute which is pulling out of my neighborhood and getting on a long 40mph stretch. It takes me 1 mile to get onto the stretch. the stretch is 6 miles long, and I maintain 40mph. Then I get on the freeway for 12 miles. I maintain 60mph. then I get off the freeway and go through a checkpoint (military base) and drive a 4 mile stretch to my workplace. I maintain 40 on that stretch. This tank also include cigarette runs to the gas station and one pizza carry out order.

mileage report

After about 1500 miles w/ a 1.8 hatchback 5 speed, 28 city (driven by my wife, aka leadfoot), 38 on the road, 32-35 average, per the computer, matches my estimated.

Considering you have two more gallons left, you could inch toward 600 if you really, really tried.

Almost bone stock....Ram air intake. Pulled 32 and some change the other night (50ish degrees) in the city. :banana:
The new wheels seemed to hurt my MPG's at first but then I realized it was my wife!!! When I got in the car the next day after she drove it....24.5!!! :sadbanana:

Wow, awesome mileage! As you pointed out before, short-shifting is the way to go. I'm assuming your 40mph stretches were all done in 6th with no major hills, right?

Unfortunately, the average driver would not have the discipline to maintain 40 mph or be bothered with short-shifting. Everyone's in too much of a hurry!

My last tank average was 34.7mpg, I'm trying but my commute is 75% stop-go. I just counted them up, I hit 13 traffic lights and 8 stop signs, of course some I'm lucky and hit green, but...uuuugh!

I'm trying really hard to catch or get close to Eric.Smit! I filled up 3 days ago, and I have a kinda similar commute. So far DIC is saying 48MPG (always off 3-4 for me) after 89 miles, and I'm down 2 notches of gas.

My commute is like 2.7 miles of city @ 30 and then 9 miles of Interstate @ 60 and finally 1 mile of city @ 35. I counted and its 2 stop signs and 5 lights. Couple nice downhill offramps and streets I can just glide down.

It has been raining since my last fill up, and the temps are back into the 60's. I wish it would stop raining and get warm again, because I know it isn't helping me. I'm thinking making a hotair intake heated by coolant in the winter might be a good MPG idea?

I agree its hard to maintain those speeds. It doesnt bother me to go slow (im not in a rush to get to work!), but its hard not feeling in the way. Every dude in a Tahoe or whatever rides my ass etc.

I bought mine cause i use it to deliver pizzas part time for pizza hut and i drive 90% city and my 2nd and 3rd tank of gas i got over 35mpg. i have a 1.8 5spd man LS. and im coming from driving a 03 Cavalier that only got 24mpg in the city, so i am extremely happy with my car, even though it is a bit of a chick car i dont care, im not crying about it costing 80-100 to fill my vehicle up.

According to Fuelly I'm averaging 30.6 over 3 fill ups (some were less than half a tank) in a 1.8L 5-speed manual. Its about 75% city and 25% highway, but the city driving is often stop and go in rush hour and the highway driving is mostly urban interstates or had steep grades. Some use of the air conditioning which really kills it in the city. I also like to accelerate rather quickly and shift above 3K RPM fairly often. For how I drive I think my fuel economy is great.

I'm getting 34.7mpg(calculated)37.1mpg(DIC) 90% freeway(80mph with cruise on), 8%short stop/long go(4-5 miles between stops), 2%city. Having a hard time keeping the cruise at 75mph. I want to try 2 tanks at 75mph and 2 tanks at 70mph and then 1 more at 80mph and compare mileage and time. I've got an extra long commute(220 miles a day) but 10% is almost stop and go hi-way traffic jam.
1.4t 6sp manual. Noticed DIC is 2.5mpg optimistic. Head winds and cold temps kill me. I did finally put my foot in it(2200miles in 2 weeks). May need just a little more of that to loosen it up? Driving like granny.

If you leave earlier and drive at 60 you'll get tremendous gas mileage.

Not entirely sure what I'm doing wrong here- or if it's still in the break-in period...
Just passed the first 650 or so miles, have filled up the tank twice now. 1.8 Auto trans.

I don't punch it hard when I accelerate, but I live in Los Angeles, where the traffic is hideous. So it's almost always stop, then go conditions.

But I keep dancing around the 23.5mpg mark. Which is pretty disappointing, actually. Still breaking it in? Or am I cursed by the city driving?

My car is like this too, but if i want to short shift i can get it up to 28-30ish mpg in the city but thats so painfully slow and after waiting at all the lights i have to wait for I normally punch it off the line. I've just never been a patient person lol I should work on that, might save me some money in the long run

I typically average about 25.5mpg per tank here nothing to horrify but nothing fantastic. On one tank when I was really pushing the car I got about 18mpg, and that was using a LOT of gas going through the gears. Best ive done is 32mpg tank avg. Pretty much never leave the city I live in, small hill country texas town everything is within 6 miles and never really see speed limits above 40. 1.8l 5sp

this is my first "little motor" car, the AC on is noticeable to power if you happen to get to low in a gear. mpg takes a hit in the city from it, so i'd imagine if your running the defroster in the northern states its similar deal.

I just did a fillup and saw 36.1mpg(calculated). The first half the tank running steady 70mph and the second half running 80mph(late for a meeting). I'm going to shoot for 38mpg by driving 70mph. Any slower and I'll get run over.

850 miles on my LT Turbo 6 Spd, on my 3rd tank, hand calc average so far is 34.6mpg. Last night I was on a long flat stretch and reset DIC several times (which reads 1 mpg high) and drove 2 miles at 55 (showing 49mpg), a couple miles at 60 (showing 45 mpg), and a couple miles at 65 (showing 41mpg). Outside temperature was 33 degrees, no wind. So I can get 8 more miles per gallon if I slow down 10mph. Don't know if I'm that patient...
