. Make the mylink screen basically a display/interface for your smartphone. There would be no need for any further updates. If you want a NEW app just download it.

The MyLink setup uses this protocol but the head unit itself is software limited to "approved apps". We could have almost full control of the Android phone via bluetooth if GM decided to allow it.

Someone mentioned the update was pushed to the unit via USB memory stick plugged into the USB port on the radio. If we could get a copy of that update file then you may be able to make some tweaks. Since I believe this is a Windows CE based OS in the radio it may be as simple as some registry tweaks on the loader to unlock the CE.

Curious.... Anyone just tried plugging a USB keyboard into the radio USB port and give it the three finger salute? See if the task manager pops up?

I did notice this morning that if you miss the bright orange light on your dash. (Low fuel) you also get a light on the bringo screen.. then you click the light it shows the closest fuel stations.. pretty neat if you don't know the area you at. But I didn't relize the computer talked to it like that..

My SAMSUNG SGH T679 remains incompatible. Is it possible Chevy has shares in Apple and is seeking to herd all the Sonic-Spark MyLink users in that direction? :sadbanana:

Just got another call from Roger at GM Support, continuing our call from last week. He's saying that he's still looking into it (the phone incompatibility issue), and is looking to get it resolved. He tickled the file and said he's get back to me on Thursday. I said, "Just get Bringgo to release my phone model to the Playstore and let me see if it works or not."

We'll see what happens. Still no additions to the Bringgo North American phone compatibility list, or any change to the Chevy Bringgo web page listing the Galaxy s3 as compatible.

I just walked out and Tried this, first with the keyboard plugged in before the head unit 'boots' and then again after it had booted. Both times I got no response at all from the keystrokes, nor would I get the normal feedback to the keyboard (i.e. num lock or caps lock lights turning on) All the information I get is The Unsupported Device Found. Ironically the same thing I get when I plug my Samsung Galaxy S3 into the onboard USB Port.

It's too bad, I was kinda hopeful as I'm a network administrator and fiddling with Windows CE would be almost like second nature to me.

I'm planning to try again with a Microsoft branded keyboard (Some locked down embedded systems (at least including windows 7 embedded) already have the MS branded drivers active even when the machine is set to not automatically install or activate any new drivers.

I'm also Curious to know what and where you found any information about the head units being Windows CE based. Any and all information would definitely be useful in engineering a 'jailbreak' of sorts for the MyLink radios. who knows, they may even be susceptible to the same or a similar jailbreak to Windows RT allowing for non signed apps to run. (Provided they are coded for the ARM architecture that is.)

I don't remember where I saw it but I remember reading someone had a problem with their radio and on start they would get a dos prompt.

The flash file for mylink is probably a .bin file.

There is probably a subroutine in the mylink that is looking for a particular type of file residing on a USB storage device when that device is plugged in.

Hopefully it checks before trying to execute/use the file, otherwise, toying with this idea might brick your mylink....

SO it sound like the solution today is google maps on my Samsung G3 with Garmin Nuvi as back up. Throw the entire Mylink in the garbage and get HU at Walmart. Cheeper and performs better.

Sorry if this has already been covered, but is BringGo using satellite reception hardware in the Sonic to pinpoint location?
I've never been able to use my phone (first iPhone 3gs, now iPhone 4) for navigation because its location accuracy was sooo appallingly poor. It would almost always think I was blocks away from my actual location. When I open BringGo on my phone the location accuracy is still terrible, but, when I plug it in and use it on MyLink it's spot on, all the time...
Also, if its only using cell data to pinpoint location, that would render it useless in large parts of the country...

BringGo uses the phone's Location Services (which includes GPS) for positioning. Additional information from the vehicle is also used to enhance this positioning.

The BringGo software is different for each region, hence the regional lists of compatible phones.

Please be aware that we are addressing the general Android incompatibility issue. We hope to have an update on this soon. A message shall be posted once a change has been implemented.

Alright I don't know if this will be helpful to anyone but I got Bringgo running on my AT&T HTC One X...here is what I did.

You need to be rooted for the spoofer to work, it should be easy as there are "one-click" tools for almost every phone out there. If you need help with that feel free to message me, I'll be happy to help.

1) Download Device Spoofer from the play store ($1.50)
2) Open the app and Backup current device info
3) Spoof your device to SGH-T959V (Make sure you pick this exact one, it's towards the end of the list)
4) Restart your phone
5) Go to the play store and search for Bringgo. For me the US/CAN version showed up in the play store. Download it install the maps and if wanted do the in-app purchase.
6) Once you got the app running and everything is downloaded go back to the spoofer app and restore your original device information
7) Restart the phone again
8) Start bringgo and everything should be working. Tested it in car too and it worked just fine

I don't know if this only works for AT&T and this phone but it's worth a shot trying it with other phones and carriers I guess.
