Is there another reason Chevrolet Customer Service continues to duck this issue other than Chevrolet has decided to wash their hands and let us Android users beat our head against the brick walls of the Detroit Renaissance (aka GM Building) Center?

I tried the spoof alternative but it did not work apparently due to the fact that I have not rooted my phone. But I should not have to take such draconian methods when all Chevrolet has to do is get their act together and get this problem resolved.

I know this product is made by a third party but as far as I know the tires on the wheels are made by a third party (or parties as the case may be).

yeah you gotta root your phone, sorry I forgot to mention it I am gonna edit it to the original post.

Rooting your phone now days is super simple though and there is a one-click tool for almost every phone out there. Let me know if you need help with that I can point you in the right direction.

I called two different dealers looking for the software update to the mylink, but when i called the dealer they were all clueless.

Most are unless you tell them to see bulletin number PI0914A.

Then they should be able to assist you.

At least that is how it worked with my dealer

site:xda-developers.org YOURMODELNUMBER phone...like Droid 4, or whatever, then add root at the end, you'll get easy to follow directions.

Looks like it is no longer a good link, in part because it carries a "This Domain Is For Sale" tag.

I have explored this option in the last several days but do not see me going further. If I understood how all these things worked it might be different but what seems like childs play to you is little more than confusing instructions and the very real possibility of bricking the phone.

My overall point is I should not have to trick the computer to make this work BECAUSE Chevy uses the ability to use BringGo in promotional material and because it does it has assumed SOME minimal responsibility to do whatever it takes to make THEIR promise to the consumer viable. I do not see Chevy doing ANYTHING to make this viable and I do see Chevy continuing to use this program to promote both the Sonic and the Spark.

Funny thing. I am sitting at Freeway Chevrolet (Tempe, AZ) right now waiting for them to finish the 45 minute firmware flash on MYLINK. Well, it's been 1.5 hours and my service rep just called me to let me know that they installed BOTH updates (warning flags went up). But that whenever they put it in reverse they get a service back-up cam warning....DUH!!!! Now they are on the horn with Chevrolet figuring how to back out of that one. I'm like...HELL YES, put in a backup cam and I'll pay for it!!! Between my tint and the freaking rear pillars the Sonic Hatch sucks for backing up LOL.

Agreed ^. I doubt it will happen since the pi0914a update says neither the spark or sonic offer a rear view camera.

Others have talked about this but none that I've heard of have been able to find out. It would be nice. For such a small car it doesn't have good visibility out the back. I'm sure most of us can live without it, but would install the camera if it was available.

Got another email from BringGo: two responses for the price of one question. Nothing new. BringGo absolves iself of all responsibility and Chevrolet seems to be doing the same. I can understand Engis lack of concern, but Chevrolet has devoted too much in advertising BringGo to expect immunity. There is such a thing as a "reasonable man" theory and I suspect it won't be long before an enterprising attorney will realize there may be a basis for a class action lawsuit.

I know Chevrolet is busy preparing for the 2014 launches of the Z-28 and the Stingray, but I suspect there are thousands of Sonic-Spark MyLink owners unable to use BringGo due to the inability of Chevrolet Engineering to take the time to get this issue resolved.

What exactly did they say to the effect of absolving themselves of responsibility? From their last response to me in this thread, they seemed go be aware of, and working on, the Android incompatibility issues.

It is my interpretation but here it is:

We will review the list of supported phones periodically to ensure that the app supports the widest range of phones possible. It is not possible to support certain phones due to limitations with the hardware itself or the interfaces used.



The list may change in the future as new devices have been tested and approved for compatibility. We do need to test each phone device for compatibility to ensure that the app works as intended.

The list of supported devices on the following link and shall be updated periodically:


The response was aggravating since the link showed the very same approved phones at it showed at the beginning.

No I will not consider an Apple. If Chevy required me to use an Apple that should have been stated in the promotional material.

I have no intention of modifying my phone thus voiding the warranty nor do I believe I should be expected to modify my phone.

And once again I notice Chevrolet Customer Service has gone silent.

When that BringGo response was first made, I took it as BringGo would make a good faith effort. When it was made for the second time with no evidence of a good faith effort than that means to me self abulation.

They will always be able to say "working on it" and they will always be able to get away with so saying UNLESS someone holds their feet to the fire.

In my opinion, Chevrolet can but only will if there is a perceived need.

I took our 2013 Sonic into the dealer for bulletin PI0914C and they updated to SW part number: 13.02-95371037. Now when we go to Smartphone Link we lost Pandora and now have Stitcher, TuneIn, BringGo w Europe, BringGo Brasil and BringGo China. Has anyone else had this happen? I think they flashed it with a non-US update..I think this was one of the first MyLink updates the dealer has done. I had to call GM Infotainment support and pass the phone to my chevy dealer to get the details.

This is the same response I suspect that everyone is getting from them. It mirrors word for word what I got back when I contacted them also. So obviously it's just a standard canned response they send out.

Basically I've given up ever using BringGo and just ignore that it exists. If you have Android, this seems to be a better path to take, rather than have expectations that it really does work with Android, only to find out you don't own one of the (really) small percentage of Android phones that are actually supported. I'm still surprised at how small the number of phones they support, but also with how OLD and unavailable many of those are. (Why are half those phones even supported? Do they actually exist in use anywhere?)

I've seen multiple folks tell you to "root" your phone here and then spoof the model. While I get what they are saying, it's not my responsibility to trick BringGo in an attempt to see if it works. If you can hack & spoof your phone and it actually does work, then what is the excuse from Chevrolet/BringGo for not already officially supporting these phones?
