Quick question, are they standard? Extra feature? Or not even an option?

HID (high intensity discharge) headlight lamps are xenon lamps. They are sold to tuners who use them to blind oncoming drivers. HIDs are favored by the kind of person who enjoys playing boom-boxes at full blast so as to annoy fellow motorists.

The new GM is too attuned to consumer sensibilities to offer HIDs as an option.

So are you saying anyone who drives a BMW is a kind of person who enjoys playing boom-boxes at full blast? What about Audi's? Acura's?

I get that the aftermarket ones are terrible, but I don't believe proper factory ones that have hundreds of thousands of dollars in research can be classified as the same.

If they are not factory PLEASE do not get aftermarket ones. Stock headlights are something that should not be changed or "upgraded".

I believe they should at least be an option. I like them.

To reply to another persons post, aftermarket HIDs are usually put in stock headlight housings which make them very bright and unbearable for some people. When cars come from the factory with them, or are put in as an aftermarket part CORRECTLY, projectors are used to help direct the light to the ground instead of every which way.

The Sonics headlights would look really good with projector lenses in there and HIDs.

I also believe that LEDs should be an option for the tailights and other lights throughout the car.

what are you like 70 years old? you have the most ignorant posts on this forum bashing anything that is remotely aftermarket or fun. you should really go troll somewhere else.

i have no problem with hids, the only issue i have is the guys that also use the fog lights and then put the rally lights on top of that.. a good set of hids should be all you need.

Corvettes use them standard and they are an option for Camaros.
For night riving, particularly in rural areas, they can't be beat.
Good packages are not cheap, and are comparable to factory.
If I go ahead and get a Sonic an they are not an option I will add them as soon as I can get them delivered. Laborsmith

I think Chevy could sell a lot of the HID option if they offered it. Make it a standalone and not group it, and I'm sure lots of people will opt for it.

I believe they did sell quite a few as part of the new generation Camaro RS package.
I am looking at one of the Retrofit Source packages. Expensive in a way but as close to an OEM setup as I could find. I truly miss the effectiveness of the Xenon head lamps so this will be one of my first mods. Laborsmith

Most cars that have them factory like Bmw, Audi, Mercedes, etc, have them in projector housings that can control where the beam is sent. Most other stock housings are not projector. They just take the extra light from the HID and reflect it everywhere. You will get a pretty good beam out of them, but no where as controlled.

If you go HID please do it the right way with projectors. If there isn't extremely bright glare, the heat from the bulbs will in time damage your OEM housings.

It was my understanding that HID's usually run cooler than their halogen counterparts. It is already known that HID's are more efficient WRT light output with the same wattage, so how could they be hotter?

I wanna see your beam output, Mr Bond! Nobody has put up pics of a non projector HID kit on a sonic yet.

Yea its not the greatest. Lights up the road pretty good. You can see the main beam extend out pretty far. I have the factory bulbs in the fogs with a light yellow tint over them. Does fine for me.

Ill have to get some pics taken when im out and its not raining lol
