the Sonic is damn well sealed. that's why it's so hard to close only one door.

Yes, to block out noise, however against water it stands no chance - no car does - even during a fairly short immersion. I imagine with water to the door handles, the is more than enough pressure for the water to come into the cabin.

If aligned right they shouldn't be.

All vehicles have a one way flap often located under the rear bumper cover that lets air pressure escape when a door is closed.

Well it was only for a short ammount that we pushed the car through no water in my car o.o like it was deep enough to turn my car off lights started to flash and car died So we turned it off and pushed it the rest of the way and there was trucks passing by the waves make it up to my door handles

Ah yes and another thing damn I bet towing trucks made $$$$ They wanted me to pay $160 to get my car towed one light lol I was one light away from my house Crazy ass price


PS. That truck in the picture it is sitting on the middle median along with the red van also and the white car had the read end floating so everytime a 18 wheeler would pass making waves it would make it float and ended up over the sidewalk

I don't know about Sonics, but it is certainly not true that "no car" can hold with water to the door handles. The venerable VW bug (not the new bug shaped object, a real beetle) floats so well that we regularly would drive through flood waters on the way to school, in Recife Brazil in the rainy season. Build up enough speed to keep momentum up when you hit the water, and you'd lift free of the bottom but float forward, and with luck the front tires would reach land again, pull you up and out. Otherwise, we kept a couple poles inside and could open the windows and push until tire contact was made.

Door handles does sound extreme... the Bug floated well before hitting that depth. Is the Sonic that much more dense? Seems to me you'd go nose down unless you had a significant load in the rear to balance things out.

We had 6 people in car haha big people and a baby My cousin and hes brother came to help us since it was his wife and baby in my car and we got in when we tried to pass through water it seemed to go down but we went down the street and it was worse

There may certainly be exceptions to the rule, so I'll rephrase myself to say that the vast majority of cars would not be able to do that and Sonic is probably not the exception along with other new vehicles. When I spent weekends wheelin' various trail rigs, I'd noticed that I would usually get a free pass of a under 10 seconds before any significant water would start to show if I was in water above the bottom of the door jamb.

Jeeps were comparable to a spaghetti strainer when put into water.

VW floating

There was a magazine article many years ago about this. I believe it was in the magazine Popular Science that tested the bugs floating ability in open water and if I recall correctly it was about 22-minutes before it went down.
