Sonic vs huge landscaping rocks! Bad accident! Thoughts

Hey Gang!...Thankfully, my wife and Son are perfectly fine, except shaken up a bit...they were driving along today on highway, car in front of them erraticly and too damn fast swerved out of the way of huge landscaping rock boulders??...my wife was unable to make such a safe nor quick move! Lets say without it being up on the rack yet etc to check it out...the entire front and rear left side suspension systems are all but destroyed gone, etc. alloys are bent to hell, the tires are torn, the rear strut is hanging from above... the bolt where it attaches to wheel hub assembly is gone?, the front suspension is twisted, missing, or leaking. I'm so upset brand new car only has like 5,000 miles on it! So I'm making my own list and going to be very involved with the best correct repair..but do you all have any suggestions.. Like should o plead having the other tires tht have a good 5,xxxx.miles on them replaced because it would be an issue with mpg, look, noise, etc, should I have or be sure they check engine mount and body mounts etc for tourging or twisting...really afraid of missing anything or battling over something tht could be an issue down the road..ugh...i have no idea how the wife was able to get the car to the side of the road.thx again you guys. I will update once I know more..this just happened at 3 today! I'm guessing like a good 2,000 just in parts alone.thx g

Wow! I'm glad that they are ok. Sounds like the car kept them fairly well protected then. Hopefully it can be fixed up good as new.

Thank you, thank you for the well wishes! Yes they are perfectly fine and my son hasn't been bothered by it any further...you guys are all correct the car can be fixed or replaced! I won't know anything until monday with body shop...ugh. Heres the the thing cooing at it from a standing position looking at the car you would say looks like two flat tires! However, I looked at it more today..here is what I could see

LEFT REAR END:TIRE FLAT/TORN, ALLOY WHEEL HUGE WHOLE CRACK THROUGH BOTTOM CENTER OF THE WHEELS DRUM, REAR STRUT BOLT, NUT, GONE, STRUT HANGING BY GOD KNOWS WHAT?, COIL SPRING WAS LODGED INTO SIDE OF MUFFLER, BENT TO HELL, THE CROSS MEMBER FROM LEFT WHEEL TO RIGHT WHEEL LOOKED BENT/FLEXED?

FRONT LEFT: TIRE RIPPED APART, ALLOY SQUASHED CRACKED, STRUT, MOUNT, SWAY BAR LINK, CONTROL ARM, AND POSSIBLE ENGINE MOUNT BEND?..

THIS was my assessment in the rain, bending down on ground, looking under car! Vehicle does start, electric systems seem ok, no airbag deployment? Also no warning lights except tpms..wife said the traction and stability lights came on when the.accident happen..she called onstar, oh yeah she also said the windshield wipers flew up and outward..you know when you clean windshield and pull up on wipers..yeah it must have been one hell of a.ride! I can't believe she didn't take picture of rocks! Several cars got damaged! Waiting for police report, but they think they got the person responsible...hoping there ins. Will take care of! Thx stever! Yes I agree..hoping to keep updates on here once I have the info!. Thought it was weird no airbags, no auto onstar severity sensors, no major warning lights? Thx again gabe.

Ditto ERIC.
If damage is that bad. It just might be totalled. It might be a good prayer, to pray it is totalled. If they do total it, let them have it. Then go buy a brand New Sonic (again).
Dont mess with repairs to the chassis/suspension.

Seriously Im thankful to GOD that everyone is in good health after that. I guess it is also good to know that our Sonics can hold up to that abuse and still protect the occupants.

Actual diagrams of front amd rear suspension etc, prices, piece by piece.. I was at a good $6,000.00 dollars and I'm not the expert, thts without it being on the rack being checked 100%!...so I would say if it were to be like 10,000 or more yeah it's totaled.. I paid $16,500.00 with taxes, tittle, lic, reg, fees, etcetc..so not sure how ins.works..not happy this is going to be on carfax! We really take good care of out cars! Oh well...ltr guys g

Thx brother! I agree I'm praying because is only about three months old with not even 5,000 miles on it.even if they fix it it won't be the same! Yeah it did a damn good job protecting them..looking at it, taking to wife..not sure how it didn't tip over..it's lower to ground, smaller tires, big a** rocks..i mean speed was a good 55 to 65 mph!, no brakes applied due to so fast! You guys should see the wholes in the alloy wheels..i mean what kind of force could bust off tht strut bolt and nut?

Makes sense! I will let you all know something on monday! I hope..my thoughts let me just get a new sonic....but realistically as tight as insurance can be..who knows..I'm sick about it, car is stil basically brand new we have had it les than 60 days! Only put about 3,000 actual miles on it! I mean imagine hitting something hard enough to make windshield wipers to sling off windshield forward. To place huge crator type wholes in alloy wheels, bust off suspension bolts/nuts....no thx

Lol! Thx and sorry! I have been so busy! The car is currently under repair! So far about $3,00.00 dollars! I did my own estimate online with diagrams and pricing from gm parts.com and I am at 3,400.00 so thts interesting. The body shop we are using and we have a lifelong relationship with them! Tht helps! I did a walk through with them car did great job, we agreed on replacing the same things just because they may be hurt but unable to find it damaged. Feel good about it so far...you guys should have seen it! I was able to grab the back wheel and was able to move the whole wheel amd cross beam to right wheel all around..not sure the correct name of part! Ll ps sorry I'm using my phone which sucks at posting on here! Thx
